Baseball: Hawks Battle Bandera this Friday & Standings

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team will be on the field for a home game against Bandera this Friday as a series win over the Bulldogs would go a long way in securing a playoff spot when the district contests conclude in 3 weeks.

   Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Hawks have a 1-5 record going into this battle as CL has faced off against 3 of the District 28-4A squads with 4 of those losses coming from Boerne and Fredericksburg, who will be battling off this week as both of those teams square off for that top spot.

Canyon Lake split their two game series with Hondo and have yet to have their games with Bandera, which will start this Friday.

Baseball has a different schedule for their district contests, having each team playing 3 games, with a two game schedule that is followed by one game date later that will decide who won each series for each school.

This Bandera game will be the last two game stint before each team goes through the district playing a single game completing the schedule.

At this writing, Canyon Lake has a 4th place standing with their win over the Hondo Owls a couple of weeks earlier. The Owls swept their two game series against Bandera which places them alone in 3rd place.

That is why this game will go a long way in placing the schools in their pecking order. It will give each team a seeding that is used for pairing their playoffs. Just like all of the other sports, the top 4 will make the next round of games and so far, CL has had each of their team sports making T-Shirts for their playoff round of contests.

Pitching is the main ingredient in how far a team can go during this time of the campaign and the Hawks just did not have enough arms to compete against Boerne or Fredericksburg.

Freedom Mail Center says Let’s Go Hawks!

“We haven’t faired to well with the big boys,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We are hitting a stretch with Bandera and Hondo. We can play with these teams. If we want to make the playoffs we must win two of three from one of these teams.”

There you have it for what needs to be done for this year’s Hawk’s Baseball team. The third game of the Hondo series will be a home game as well as having 2 of the 3 Bandera contests at the Hawk Nest.

A home field advantage can go a long way for your Hawks and that will commence this Friday night when Bandera comes to town with the first pitch at 7:00pm.

Go Hawks and Beat the Bulldogs!!
