Senior night was a success for the Hawks with a win and sweep over Bandera and a much needed contest going into this post-season winning, 8-5.

Avery Montgomery was vintage, throwing strikes at an 81% ratio and striking out 12 Bulldogs for the victory.

Montgomery controlled the game, as his only walk, was an intentional pass that put a force out at any base during the Bulldog’s 4th inning. That frame would have the Bulldogs scoring 2 runs to take a brief one run lead for the second time for the night. It would be the last lead for the vistitors.

CL answered BHS first lead in scoring 4 runs on just one hit to open up this battle.. Brandon Robinson started the frame with a four pitch walk and then a CJ Parrish single would score Robinson after an error that allowed that tying score.

“This has been a long ride and well worth it,” Parrish would remember his last 4 years of competing. “I had the highest respect for Coach D (Dunavant) and it was a good year with Coach (Victor) Escamilla who helped us move forward.”

Tanner Sellers sacrificed the, Pinch Runner, Ethan Slater into a scoring opportunity occupying 2nd base.

          Keep Going Hawks!!

The Hawks would manufacture all the runs for this inning as two more walks combined with wild-pitches and passed balls wreaked havoc and a Canyon Lake, 4-1 lead after two innings.

Bandera would not be finished after putting four more runs across in their next two frames that would retake the lead, 5-4.

Parrish would get his 2nd hit on the night leading off in the 4th inning. That had CL stringing 4 singles in a row with hits from Sellers, Stafford, and JT Greene to complete this onslaught.

Greene’s single scored two of those runs which gave the Hawks their lead back and eventual win.

Catcher, Stafford (another Senior), ended his regular season with 2 hits on this night, “It was good to end with a win to end our regular season….it was great to know the guys and the friends I made here are friends for a lifetime.”

Kyle Doerfler was the final hit in that inning that scored an insurance run for an, 8-5 advantage.

That inning would have the last runs scored in this game as both pitchers settled in and escaped any more damage.

The Hit Man says ‘Keep getting Hits Hawks!!

Montgomery would face some trouble in Bandera’s 6th inning after loading the bases on a hit batter and an outfield error. An infield hit would put Bulldogs on each base with just one out.

Vintage Montgomery would strike out the next batter and a ground ball to Drew Tyra ended the threat.

Another Bulldog single in their last time up would keep pressure on CL, but two strikeouts would douse this flame and put CL in a position not seen since their 2010 year. Post Season was knocking on the door and the whole team answered the bell for a time that has been a long time in coming.

Decent defense and timely hitting helped in securing this victory as CL’s mainstay, Montgomery would team up with Stafford in striking out 4 innings worth of Bulldogs and a win to end the regular season.

“Very exciting,” Montgomery stated in responding to this last home game for the Senior Ace. “It was emotional game with this being my last home game and I am going to keep improving and try to get to the next level.”

Montgomery had an MVP campaign as this Senior was called upon throughout this year’s magical run to the playoffs.

That 7th inning would highlight another Senior, when Drew Tyra would charge a ground ball that was snatched bare handed and throw to Parrish for the first out of that final regular season frame.

            Way to Go Hawks!!

This Senior Crew made up the bottom half of the Hawk’s defense and they would go out in style.

Now, Canyon Lake will have to wait to find our their next opponent as District 27-4A has a log jam with 3 teams presently duking it out for that top seed and date with the Hawks.

Stayed tune to the Hilltop ReSporter for information on CL’s next contest and Congratulations!!

Way to Go Hawks!
