Canyon Lake’s Boys Track & Field finished in 2nd Place only trailing Canyon High School at the Lockhart Liion’s Relays that were run last week.
The Lake will now go to work to see if they might be able to overcome a perennial Track & Field fixture in winning district championships in the Fredericksburg Billies program.

Way to Go Hawks!!
There will now be a preparation time as the District 28-4A Meet will commence on April 11-12 of next week.
Canyon Lake was led in scoring by Caimen McDonough after scoring 32 points leading the next Hawk that had Chance Martelli and Nik Rivera both with 10 points. CL did have some good athletes missing as the Boy’s Soccer team was playing their Bi-District Tilt during the same time.
This Track Meet had some bigger schools in attendance reducing chances for scoring in many of the events. To top that off, with a rainfall that doused Lockhart, the Triple Jump and High Jump could not be part of the scoring events.
For the Junior Varsity, Patrick McAuliffe led with 16 points after scoring in 4 events and Seth Titzman coming in with 12 points followed by Paul Martinez getting 10 points with a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter dash. Titzman won the 400 meter dash for his double figure scoring and another 2 points coming from his 4×400 relay event.
There were some other Hawks that showed some promise with that all important district meet being right around the corner.
Freshman Will Hillenbrand was one of those performers that had a personal best reaching the 13-6 mark in the Pole Vault finishing in 3rd place in this meet.

Go, Go, Go Hawks!!
“I was super excited when I cleared the 13-06 height and I was relieved,” Hillenbrand branded. “I am hoping to get to 14-06 and make it to Area.”
Hillenbrand was commenting after he was asked what his hopes for this season would be in this Pole Vault event.
Going to a Pole Vault competition you can tell how all the athletes vaulting are familiar with each other. “That is my favorite part is in having all the camaraderie with everyone cheering on each other.”
The pole vault is one of the most difficult events in the field events in seeing athletes having their heads closer to the ground than the rest of their body. That would not end well for many of us in any sport much less being over 10 feet from the ground during this type of competition.
“I am having lots of fun,” Hillenbrand answered after being asked if he was indeed having fun. “Seventh Grade was the first time I gripped the pole and ran and jumped….I never imagined I would be getting this high.”

Freedom Mail Center says Way to Go Hawks!
This event would be one that can help Canyon Lake when they meet up with Fredericksburg later this month as the Billies have several students that pole vault and having just one Hawk that can compete with a chance of finishing in that first 6 spots that score points is a double bonus.
If Hillenbrand can finish in the top 4 then he will be able to compete in the Area Meet and that feat could score 6-8 or10 points while taking points away from the Billies is a win-win.
Keep soaring Hillenbrand and help the Hawks finish high in District 28-4A play.
Go Hawks!!
