Softball District 28-4A Standings & Musings
Canyon Lake Softball will start their 2nd straight year having a one game seed date with Fredericksburg for the right to have a lower seeded contest to start the post-season.
Looking at the standings for District 27-4A will indicate that a Gonzales squad is not as good as a Navarro Panther team. It is Softball and anything is possible but a chance to play the Apaches would be more desirable for all Hawks involved.
Last season, CL lost to the Billies and started their playoff games with a much more powerful La Vernia crew who would sweep The Lake in two games. This year Hawk’s are a better team than last year’s edition but a first place team earned the right for a more winnable battle to start their playoff road.
Hawk Softball will be starting their 3rd year of post-season tries and 2nd in a row. A third time of matching up with Fredericksburg might be what is needed for having a chance to show that their last time on the diamond with the Billies did not show the potential for an improved club.
Canyon Lake has an impressive record of, 15-3-1 after starting their season with a schedule of playing 5-A & 6-A schools.
Fredericksburg had to scratch and claw in winning their final game with Boerne coming back with a dramatic contest. A 6 run deficit was overcome by the Billies and that will be the same motif taking the field this Monday when these two go to battle once again at Boerne Champion.
Some good signs presented themselves when your Hawks took care of business in their game with Bandera last Friday. A 16 run blow-out was a good way of getting that bad taste from their mouths in a humiliating loss to these Billies in that last contest.
Having Jessie Melendez returning to the line-up with a 3 for 3 evening and then add a Maddy Puente 4 for 4 night with 7 rbi’s was a good confidence builder from the hitting side of this game.
With a good pitching gem when Maggie Banks took to the circle to no-hit the Bulldogs. The same Bandera club that hung 9 runs on CL in their last time they played.
Marley Carrizales has been red-hot during District 28-4A play as her late start in getting every day action might have been a good way of seeing her peak at the right time along with Adriana Peaslee coming on with an impressive sophomore year.
The 500 club is a crowded place with 4 Hawks taking up residence with, out of this world, numbers.
District 28-4A Games ab hits ave. Marley Carrizales 27 15 .556 Maddy Puente 29 16 .552 Bailey Bryan 22 12 .545 Adriana Peaslee 27 14 .519
CL will now enter a pre-playoff contest with Fredericksburg in hopes of sharpening their skills and having another contest before the win or go home time of the clock strikes later this week.
Softball has officially won a District Championship becoming the 4th Hawk Team to accomplish this stratosphere during this school year. Joining Football-Girls Basketball-Boys Track & Field for a year never seen in the Hawk Nation before.
Volleyball now has more company being atop a Standings Bar and a well deserved accomplishment. There is more goals to conquer and it will start this Monday.
Go Hawks!!!
