The Lady Softball team get’s the #7 spot for this year’s Top 15 Countdown. it was the Fredericksburg game that became one of the best outcomes for CL in this sport.

“We knew this was going to be a tough game especially on the road,” Head Coach John Gallagher recalled. “We played great going into the 5th inning and then held our composure and never quit attitude to stay even until the 8th where we showed our want to win. (Maggie) Banks pitched one of her best games and we had timely hits to seal the victory.”

Freedom Mail Center says Way to Go Hawks!

Canyon Lake was facing a team that had averaged right at 10 runs per game but as in many cases those, before district games, can be a tough way to gauge a team.

With tournaments being timed contests, that will not give a true bearing on just how good a team can be going into district play.

The Billies had done everything they needed to do in putting up a good record that had many of their foes leaving the softball field early because Freddie had already administered a mercy rule. Actually those battles were one sided with several games finishing with a blow out win.

Canyon Lake on the other hand, had not been a consistent team and seemed to still be searching for an identity that could carry them to the playoffs.

During the first part of the schedule, The Lake, started their season playing much larger schools and having some of the Hawks still enjoying a nice run playing basketball made Coach Gallagher trying to finish a jig-saw puzzle with several pieces still missing.

              Great Year Hawks!!

Add with those circumstances having freshmen playing varsity right off the bat (pardon the pun) made an 0-8 start easier to understand.

This Billie Battle was important in giving CL a chance to win another district championship for the Hawk Athletic department.

A game that would put another Hawk team on top of a District 28-4A race, enjoy the read and Go Hawks!!
