CL Hawks Boys: Track & Field Finish with a Great Year

Canyon Lake’s Boys Track & Field had their best season to date after winning 4 Meets and two of those get togethers, were against District 28-4A foes and then the next week CL added District 27-4A for the Area Track Title.
There were several athletes that raised the Bar (literally) in several events that will be talked about for a long time.

Those last two Meets had that last event spotlighted as Canyon Lake was losing by 1 point to Fredericksburg in the District Meet. Then the dance partner changed to Wimberley at the Area Meet where your Hawks took that same 4×400 relay event but went into that race with a slim 3 point lead.
“The 2018 Boys Track Season was a Great success,” Head Coach Troy Moses said proudly. “Every year you go into a season with certain expectations, and this year’s team surpassed any and all expectations that are put in front of them….I am very proud of what we accomplished as a Track Program. As a coach, I will remember this season for a very long time.”
That speaks volumes as this group of athletes had some good Senior Leadership to help achieve those goals mentioned by Coach Moses.
Track & Field starts each year with a question mark that comes from those Seniors. Quite frankly, those boys will many times, just cash in all of their chips and ride their last few months as a Senior laying low.
Those Seniors that took the baton were needed as schools like Fredericksburg will not have those problems in their track program and with their seniors taking part in helping their school rise to the top in this Sport.
Three of the Top 5 Point Scorers for this year were Seniors. Senior Caimen McDonough 300 Senior Lester Boehm 129 Junior Chance Martelli 93 Senior Jacob Foster 81 Sophomore Nic Rivera 77
The ReSporter will make an obvious statement for this year’s sporting events. Mr. McDonough had an MVP Year as a Hawk. This young man excelled playing offense and defense on this year’s football squad.
Go ask Coach Chapman with Basketball on how valuable McDonough was on the hard court this year and you would hear a lot of accolades coming from the Basketball crew of players and coaches.

Now you had a 300 point year in Track & Field? Are you kidding? That is an astronomical year when you also take note that his Track season started a tad late based on Basketball’s post-season play.
For the bigger picture, McDonough scored 5 points in last week’s Region Meet which put him in a tie with Jordan Anderson with 462 points for a career of running and jumping on the cinders.
Add another Senior with Lester Boehm topping the 300 point mark will show how much Seniors can instill confidence and wisdom for a track team.
The ReSporter has calculated the Top Track & Field Teams in comparison by using the All-Time Top 10 performances and this point system was used just as a team will garner points in a regular meet.
