CL’s Football Bi-District win over Gatesville will be next, as the Countdown continues with a #12  solid victory over a tough first round opponent.

     COUNTDOWN:
 15. Volleyball win over Wimberley in Bi-District
 14. Girl’s Basketball beating Boerne Champion
 13. Boy’s Basketball in win over Wimberley
 12. CL's Football Bi-District Win over Gatesville

              Great Year Hawks!!

Coach Drum summed up this night, “It was a great win against a battle tested 7-3 team from one of the best districts in the state.  It was a team win, offense, defense and special teams all rose up to the occasion.  It was great to get out of the 1st round after two defeats the previous two years. Also, winning our 9th game of the year, was a school record.”

The Hawks had an opportunity to be seeded against a 4th seed based on winning District 28-4A Title. Usually, that would give a team an opponent with a record with more than 3 losses.

Coach Drum, mentioned on how good the district was where Gatesville resides. There were 4 teams that were ranked at one time in the top 20 for Texas. CL would meet up with the district champion which was La Vega who happened to end the Hawks season 3 rounds into the post-season.

This was not a, ‘mark it as a win’ game by any stretch. The Hawks would suffer turnovers which was not a common occurrence and having those dastardly plays during a playoff game will usually not be a good sign.

Canyon Lake did stave off Gatesville by capitalizing on all facets of their game, just like Coach Drum mentioned above.

Says Go Hawks

                     Let’s Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter, still remembers the smartest play of the year, after an interception thrown by QB Ben Fulton.

Gatesville would have been in a grand position after the runback resulted in a touchdown. Except for a flag that was thrown back at the 30 yard line where, Fulton was hit in the back while trying to tackle the defensive-back.

Fulton would not have made a tackle even without that illegal block but a savvy QB, would slow down just enough for that Gatesville blocker to hit him in the back, drew a foul and saved a score.

Canyon Lake’s defense would hold and keep the Yellowjackets out of the end-zone and helped in preserving a win.

A special year for Canyon Lake and a chance to keep playing with this win.
