                                           COUNTDOWN:

This sport had not been a top Team sport when Canyon Lake started their sports, but as each year has progressed, there has been more and more ladies that have formed a team of athletes that continues to add more depth and talent.

Do not take this wrong, the Hawks have had some very good athletes that have supplied great moments but as a whole, that has not translated into a total team effort.

Marisa Ellis, Jessica Cunningham, Bailey Drum, Emma Gray, etc, made strides when they took to the cinders, but as a team there would not be many team heights met.

This year, Canyon Lake Ladies, had a break out season, winning two meets and not finishing lower than 3rd place while the Hawks Junior Varsity would join this up and coming Hawk sport winning two meets too.

CL’s points scored in district play has been steadily going up the past 4 years as depth continues to keep those numbers rising.

This countdown will involve the Girl’s whole season after placing 1st Place in the Lobo Relays in Hays, 1st Place in the Bandera Relays, and 1st Place in the Lockhart Relays.

Add two first place finishes for the Junior Varsity and you will see a formula that will be around for the next several years.

During the Bandera Relays the Girls had a sweep after taking 1st place with the JV and Varsity.

Add some more wood to the fire and you will see a JV Team that finished in 3rd place at the very first meet and then never had a lower place the rest of their season.

That fire has a lot of wood piling up for some Smores for a celebration if this group of ladies can continue to stay together and can continue their improvement. Coach Barthels moved several up to Varsity and that will bode well for future success on the cinders.

Canyon Lake had some Seniors that made some high marks for future athletes to aspire too.

The Hawks had a great year in what was a banner season in all CL’s sports.

The Canyon Lake Nation will certainly be clamoring for Smore next year and Congrats on an awesome year!!
