CL Hawk’s Pleasanton Win is No. 2 on this Year’s Countdown
We are down to the final two for this year’s Top 15 Hawk Sporting events for this past school year. This was a season that had some similarities from the 2009-10 sports year when CL was taken to the cleaners in every sport that first year of varsity play.
That second year had several sports that broke the playoff barrier for the first time.
Volleyball Football Girls Basketball Baseball
All major sports and a year of pushing the envelope and giving hope for a school that might have a chance of excelling for many years to come.
This being the 10th year of competing had CL going much further with several of those sports.
Football, based on the number of fans, will always be a sport that will rate above the others and having the Hawks inching another round in the playoffs helped continue building those new blocks for future students to aspire to achieve themselves.
Hence, we have our #2 game being a win over Pleasanton in a 2nd round victory that gave CL another week of playing, reaching the month of December.
Head Coach Charlie Drum was to the point with his assessment on this win, “A great come from behind victory that we dominated in the second half, especially by our offensive and defensive lines. It was a great win for our seniors as we talked about all year of raising the bar for future teams. Our first trip into the third round and a Decemnber playoff game certainly did just that.”

Canyon Lake had been at this door on three previous occasions with each try getting close but no cigar.
Previous Area Contests 2010 CL Hawks 24 Somerset 25 2013 CL Hawks 08 La Grange 50 2014 CL Hawks 21 Rockport 27 OT 2017 CL Hawks 28 Pleasanton 10
Two of those 3 contests were close losses. A missed field goal in 2010 with no time left on the clock. That fg try was inches away from clearing the goal posts. The game with Rockport went into overtime which tells you how close that Area Post-Season contest ended.
Canyon Lake would be favored in this match-up but those games still need to be played on the field as there are many times that, who is favored, comment is not worth the paper it is typed on.
The Pleasanton Eagles were not a pushover, as they led by 3 points going into their halftime routine. Getting through those cobwebs from previous battles for this round would hopefully be evident in those last two quarters.
With 21 unanswered points scored in that 2nd Half would have Canyon Lake making a date for playing a game in December.
Enjoy the read as you dream of those pads being put on in two more months.
GO HAWKS!!
