                   Cassidy Felps 5

“We started the night like we have been playing SA Reagan and other schools,” Head Coach Kim Paisley started. “We played well but lost focus during the 2nd and 4th sets….but we dug deep and fought back.”

            Way to Go Hawks!!

Cassidy Felps led CL with 23 sets with many of those passes making their way to Riley Mickey who finished the contest with 17 kills on the night.

CL worked their way to a 10 point lead to start the first set but the Eagles had a 5 point rally that help draw Akins to with 2 points trailing your Hawks, 18-16.

Akins struck back in that second set by inching out for a 8 point advantage leading CL, 19-11. Felps scored two aces on her next serve and a kill each from Mariah Haight, Mickey, and Kayla Wunderlich that would draw the game back within reach.

The Eagles would stay at arms length to finish out the set and helping split the first two sets.

That 3rd set had 15 ties as both squads reached 15 points a piece and CL would have their first 2 point rally in the set off the serve of Lainee Moses with a kill from Paige Bower and Caroline Kullberg.

Bower and Mickey would respond on the Hawk’s next serve to help CL to forge for a 5 point win, 25-20.

During that final set, Akins had taken control with the Eagles taking a 4 point advantage, 14-10. Austin Akins kept the pressure throughout and was in position to take this night to a 5 set evening leading, 23-20.

Haight would serve the next 4 points to finish the game as Mickey scored the last 3 points for the hard fought victory.

                                          ====================

Canyon Lake Freshman took care of business after winning in three sets over Akins, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15.

Addyson Andrews’ Serves and Front Row play helped in Hawks Win

“I’m just proud of how we played as a team for the third set,” Head Freshman Coach Tosha Ridgeway said. “They let the first win relax them too much but luckily we were able to snap out of that in set three.”

CL was all business to start this night starting with a dominating first set as their lead stretched out to 11 points, 22-11. A short let down had the Eagle squad outscoring CL, 6-3 to end the set.

That let down continued throughout the second set with an Eagle winning by two points.

This ending had some tough luck by CL’s crew when a point was lost with a scoring error and then as the Hawks were making their final run were out of luck as an Ace was nullified when a Varsity Hawk player was the line judge and was summoned to join the Varsity as they started their warm-up in the main gym.

That Ace would have had CL all tied up if those two lost points were counted.

Going into a winner take all 3rd set had both teams all tied up at 7 when Katy Taliaferro served for a 5 point rally to give Canyon Lake the separation needed to finish the contest with a 10 point victory.

Addyson Andrews helped with her serve before Taliaferro got into the act after serving two aces and a 4 point sequence helping the Hawks to tie the set with 6 points a piece.

On what happened in that 2nd set, Andrews surmised, “They got into our head….and we got discouraged.”

That was not the end result on this night however, “We spoke more and forgot what happened in that second set,” Andrews recounted. “We were communicating and that was really big for us because we started quiet.”

Canyon Lake’s Freshman have one loss for the year and being quiet will not be a common occurrence as this season continues to mature as this group of players will have their say as district comes calling in a month.

Congrats and Go Hawks!!
