JV Hawks Can’t Finish in Loss to Wimberley, 36-20
JV Hawks Recapping after hard fought loss to Wimberley.
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity could not mainstay their momentum after a barrage of rushing yardage by Wimberley in losing, 36-20 on Thursday night.

“We moved the ball but we could not finish either half,” Offensive Guru Barthels quipped. On how well the horde of running backs performed, “This was a first time to work with some of the players because of injuries this will be a good group.”
The Hawks did start off with an impressive start by stopping the Texan’s first drive and then hustling down the field in scoring after 10 plays and covering 89 yards with a 4 yard run by Patrick Almond to go up, 6-0. There were 4 different CL backs that was highlighted by Ryan Rivali with 3 rushes all amounting to 10 yards or more.
That was when Wimberley’s Quarterback started his rampage rushing for over 200 yards and giving Canyon Lake trouble throughout the evening.
Running Back Jesse Horner finishes just 8 yards from century mark.
The Texans would reel off 22 straight points before your Hawks would take their second half drive 50 yards when Jesse Horner ran 22 yards to glory and drawing this contest to a one score deficit, 22-14.
“Our offensive line were on top of their blocks tonight,” Horner remembered. “There were some mistakes and stuff….but we got to improve. This was an upsetting for us as we had beaten them (Texans) three straight times.”
This Canyon Lake drive needed two Haws, Almond and Horner with each encompassing an explosive play over 20 yards that helped in the score.
Wimberley would fumble on their pass play their next time with the ball giving CL a chance to draw closer, but the Texan’s defense stopped the Hawks on a 3 play and punt series and what would end up being their last chance to take the game back into their favor.
A 53 yard Texan pass play would and eventual score on the first play of the 4th quarter put enough distance in this game which was highlighted after a missed 4th down run and giving Wimberley short yardage for their next score, 36-14.

Ty Martinez was not finished after jetting around the end for a 24 yard score which would conclude the scoring. The Hawks had 9 different players that had their numbered called and Horner was a recipient in the only pass and completion for 42 yards that helped set-up that final score.
With a Hawk defense fining it hard to stop the Texan’s zone read this game will go to Wimberley as both group of players showed what will be coming in the next two years in the Battle for the Back-Bone.
