           Starts Cafe Says Go Hawks!

This week will not have a lot of action with the Hawk’s Volleyball team taking Tuesday off and then back to work on Friday when La Vernia comes to The Lake.

La Vernia will be another tough test for CL as these Bears are a beast and ranked while Canyon Lake continues their rocky road in preparing for a 21st opening in District 28-4A play. Boerne will be at The Nest and a chance to witness if this road of seeing ranked and bigger opponents will pay off in the educational phase and race for a good district showing.

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball has not finished below a 2nd place finish in 4 years and hopes of continuing that streak in this new district is on the line.

Football will be a headline this week as the Football crew will be traveling over the Devil’s Backbone to meet up with our neighbors from Wimberley. This is the 4th year of having a prize for the winner in the form of the Devil’s Backbone Trophy.

The Texans have won the last two years and the Hawks will be working on keeping their unbeaten record and bringing the trophy back to CLHS Halls.

Last week, Canyon Lake had their game called after the first drive of the 2nd half and a 20-3 Hawk victory.

The good news was no major injuries and having some of those bumps and bruises healing for those players that missed last week’s contest.

Wimberley has won 8 of the past 10 meetings and will coming into this affair with a 1-1 slate after a loss to Giddings last week.

CL’s defense has been a constant to start this season and another good showing will be needed. The Texans will be ready to right their ship after their loss to the Buffaloes.

The ReSporter will be taking in the first game to start Mountain Valley’s Football 7th Grade with that contest taking place on a Thursday. A 4:45pm start at Mountain Valley and then off to CL’s Nest for the first contest at home for the Hawk’s Junior Varsity with the kick-off commencing at 7:00pm.

The Freshman Football crew will be in Wimberley for their kick-off at 7:00pm.

Last Thursday had the second half of CL’s Green Freshman team having to cancel due to lightning but ahead at the time that game was stopped. The Hawk’s Gold Team did play a full game and put a loss on Weiss in that contest.

Junior Varsity contest never got off the ground as they will open their home schedule against the Texans with kick-off coming at the 7:00pm time slot.
