Canyon Lake Gold’s Defense is Opportunistic in Billie Shut-Out, 12-0

Canyon Lake’s Gold team shut-out Fredericksburg’s White crew keeping the visitors under 100 yards of offense while using two interceptions to thwart the Billies, 12-0.

               Way to Go Gold!!

Offense was a no-show in this affair but CL Gold did have enough success in crafting a score early in the 4th quarter that would ice the game in favor of the Hawks.

Jacob Rowe did the honors scoring from 12 yards out for the final dagger. CL started this drive on their first possession in the 2nd half and traveled 61 yards on 10 plays.

That touchdown drive was a result of more good defense in keeping the Billies with a 3 play and punt mode and a chance to show that they could move the ball.

CL Gold started the game with a similar set of downs, but that foray was stopped one yard shy of a first down on FHS 10 yard line.

That good field position would reap benefits when Defensive Back Sam Zinn would intercept a Billie pass and go unheeded to a score and what would be the only points Canyon Lake would need for this contest, 6-0.

“I was watching their tackle to see if he would be run or pass blocking,” Zinn said like a defensive back that doubles as a Quarterback. “After I caught the ball, I was just hoping I wouldn’t get tackled.”

       Way to go Bow Hunting!!

No worries as the home field sideline was clear for take-off and score for Zinn.

Fredericksburg would respond with a kick-off return to CL’s 31 yard line and then three play later losing their possession on a fumble and no damage for the good guys.

The Billies were stopped on three consecutive possessions on turnovers with each drive being able to smell the goal line.

Hawks Defense Yard Started # of Plays Yards Traveled End Result
First Drive Billie’s 11 yd line 3 5 Interception and score
Second Drive Hawk’s 31 yd line 3 22 Lost Fumble on 8 yd line.
Third Drive Billie’s 43 yd line 6 34 Interception on 1 yd line.

Ashton McDonald’s interception saved a touchdown on the one yard line and stopping a tying or go ahead touchdown.

              Way to Go Hawks!!

“I was watching their Quarterback and their guy came up and I just shot up and got in front of him on my side of the field,” McDonald said matter-of-factly. This would be the Billies last chance for scoring as the game progressed with CL’s defense getting more stout as the game continued.

Game-Set-Match for Fredericksburg as their remaining drives would not threaten CL’s goal line and another Hawk win.

An opportunistic defense did the trick and a date with a Badger next week.

Go Hawks!!
