CL Hawks Were Caliente in Win over Llano in Sweep
Canyon Lake swept the Llano Yellowjackets in hopes of still sharing a District 28-4A Championship.
The Hawks were first on the court in a change of games with the JV and Freshman played after the Varsity match on this night.
All the sets were methodical wins, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-14.
“We were more focus with our hitting,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “Our passing and defense was solid.”
That was certainly a truism and Canyon Lake was able to spread some blocks around to several players with 4 different Hawks with a block.
CL’s loss with Boerne on Tuesday were only accented with blocks as the rest of that match did not have any highlights to hang on their wall.
“Those blocks helps our defense,” Coach Paisley interjected. “We are upping this part of our game.”
Canyon Lake were led in blocks when Paige Bower and Megan Vorhis each finished the game with 3 each. Kayla Wunderlich and Riley Mickey were the other two Hawks to chip in this important part of the Hawk’s game.
Mickey would reach double digit in Kills finishing with 10 which continues to be a part of this Seniors game that has been spot on since district play started.
“You have to swing with purpose to win,” Mickey started.
Canyon Lake will need a win this Tuesday when The Lake welcomes Wimberley to The Nest. The Texans are presently leading and are on top of the heap as the second round continues.
The Hawks will need a win on Tuesday and then get help from another school to have a chance of reaching the top of a District 28-4A pinnacle.
Boerne and Canyon Lake both have chances of helping their cause. As both schools have split their series and can have a chance for tying with wins over Wimberley.
The other part of that formula will be on CL, to finish this round of district play, without a blemish.
This year’s squad has been a hot and cold unit and not knowing what team will show up on any given evening.
It has been a lot like taking showers in a motel that has a C on the knob not meaning, (C)old water, but (C)aliente water.
“We are trying to get focused and play relaxed before each game,” Mickey calculated. “We play better when we are relaxed and that helps take the pressure off and we just have to have fun.”
Canyon Lake, in an earlier contest with Fredericksburg, started, as cold as ice, but they were willing to sacrifice, when the Hawks turned that match around and ending the match with a 3 set sweep.
Is there a magic wand that can help in getting the train back on the rails on those nights? “It is certainly a mental thing,” Mickey closed. “We need to focus on our job and then we are going to be fine.”
A full gym this Tuesday might be a way of getting Canyon Lake in position for a win and starting the match with the shower Knob on Caliente and not Cold.
Go Hawks!!
