Canyon Lake will go through the tunnel one last time for this season as the Lampkasas Badgers come to the Hawk Nest for Senior Night.
CL’s undefeated season ended last week in a loss to Fredericksburg and now this Hawk team will need to find enough players to keep this season going strong. An injury bug has continued this year and has seen The Lake’s Coaches having to borrow defensive players and offensive players to have the most rested and ready for each series of downs.
This Badger team has played a tough schedule and are presently tied with Canyon Lake for 2nd place in the pecking order for District 14-4A Div. I play.
A Hawk win will be important as this could be a tie-breaker rule if these two teams end the season with the same district record.
One item that jumps out for opposing teams is the turnover differential as this Badger team has forced over two fumbles a game and has double digit recoveries.
Here is a solid list of players to be watching for in this upcoming battle.
Rushing has Jack Jerome with over 1000 yards on the ground and an over 8 yards per touch average.
The QB is Sophomore Ace Whitehead who started for the Badgers as a Freshman and has shown that he is the real deal in his second season. Whitehead leads the league in passing by, percentage of completions, yardage, and touchdowns.
Whitehead has thrown just 3 interceptions and has the ability to run to avoid pressure.
Lampasas consequently has 3 receivers that are in the District 14-4A top 10.
Cameron Everts leads this contingent and the district in yardage and touchdown receptions. Over 50 receptions and over 800 yards with a 16 yards per catch.
Junior Jaylon Porter and Sophomore Michael Murray both have over 300 yards through the air and will have CL’s secondary busy in this affair.
Whitehead will also be the Badger’s punter and is presently second in district play in this category.
Canyon Lake will need to establish a good running game to help keep this Badger offense off the field as the Hawks will continue to play a defense that will be tested on this last home game of the season.
Go Hawks and Beat the Badgers!!
