Canyon Lake will be welcoming their first District 14-4A Division I opponent in the Taylor Ducks this Friday, as the win or go home time of the year commences.
This series has been an exciting battle with Taylor taking the first 3 contests by a total of 11 points and the last two were played with the winner being crowned the district champion.
All three of those losses had The Lake with a lead going into the 4th quarter. Last season, Taylor, tied the score in the 4th before CL would answer with two scores for the win.
CL lost in that 4th quarter in each of those previous 3 contests after enjoying a lead that would not hold.
Biggest Lead 4th Quarter Lead Final Score
2016 17-0 7:35 left in 2nd Quarter 37-36 8:40 left Ducks 33-31
2015 28-9 0:59 left in 2nd Quarter 28-16 10:28 left Ducks 31-28
2014 17-6 9:57 left in 2nd Quarter 24-20 11:03 left Ducks 50-44
You get the idea, this has been an exciting game without exception.
This year Taylor is replacing some skill positions and have tested their team with a tough schedule.
The Ducks rank 3rd in district with their defense and offensively being just under 1000 yards with their passing game.
Cole Harms has been a part of those passing numbers with his major target being Michael Schneider who has 25 catches for 300 yards. Joshua Blue is second with 16 receptions covering 202 yards coming into this contest.
Jalean Tealer leads the ground game with 356 yards and 3 touchdowns. Which should be a good one-two punch against the Hawks’ defense.
The Ducks best weapon will come from reversing the field with a dynamite punter, Senior Ryan Hanson, comes into this game with a balmy 44 yards per punt average. One of those kicks went for 67 yards.
Canyon Lake has not had their best season in taking care of the ball and Taylor has forced 4 fumbles while recovering 3 of those miscues.
The Hawks will need to get their offense back in gear with each game being for keeps. Taylor has not had a good defense against the run which could play into CL’s wheel house.
The Lake will have their hands full and taking the air out of the ball would be a good way of having a good chance against the Ducks this year.
One thing The ReSporter can deduce is that no matter Taylor’s record, this school is a tough out.
Go Hawks!!
