Canyon Lake lost a 13 point lead in the 2nd Half and a heartbreaking loss on Senior Night at the Hawk Nest, 34-27.

                    Go Hawks!!

The Hawks came out on fire as Caleb Almond started making up for lost time taking his first hand-off in 5 weeks to the house for 68 yards and a quick Hawk lead, 7-0,

CL Defense held the Badgers on their first possession that would set up Canyon Lake with a chance to increase that 7 point lead.

A Badger interception would switch the field and Lampasas would respond with a pass play that matched CL’s 1 play drive which also matched the score, 7-7.

The Lake would on their first 2nd quarter possession, cover 69 yards on 8 plays and a 32 yard pass to Chance Martelli being the catalyst play giving CL needing 15 yards for another score. Almond would do the honors on a 2 yard up the middle run and another 7 point lead, 14-7.

Lampasas would not go away and responded with 51 yards and tying score on a 3 down play, after a 15 yard penalty, that looked like it might save the Hawks from being scored on. To no avail as this back and forth affair would be knotted up at 14 points a piece.

Canyon Lake finished the 1st half with another 1 play drive when Nic Rivera two-upped Almond’s run going 70 yards resulting in being tied with the Badgers at 25 seconds.

Defense would come through again and stop this powerful Badger offense and that would give the Hawks one more chance for a score.

That CL did, this time going 80 yards on 10 plays and 9 of those snaps being on the ground. This time Tristan Chacon would have the last two touches covering 19 yards and a Hawk 13 point lead, 27-14.

                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

On what would be a Canyon Lake’s loss, this game would be similar to their loss to Fredericksburg, in the previous week, as the Offense did not show up in the 2nd Half. The Badgers would wake-up and finish with 20 unanswered points and win, 34-27.

Canyon Lake did have a chance on their last drive but was stopped on a 4th down inside the Badger’s 10 yard line and loss. Before this drive, the Hawks, had amassed just one first down during the 2nd half.

Overall, CL was O-fer in converting 3rd and 4th down tries which is a sure sign in knowing this game might not end in your favor.

There will not be much time to recoup, as CL’s next opponent is ranked in the Top 5 in Texas and this bout is being held at Liberty Hill.

Canyon Lake has a playoff game clinched but what seed that Bi-District contest will be is yet to be decided.

Here is a Run Down.

1. A Hawk win would give CL a 2nd or 3rd seed based on Lampasas/Fredericksburg result.
2. A Hawk loss would give CL a 4th seed with a chance of being tied with Taylor but Hawk’s hold tie-breaker.

This next contest will be a polar opposite form this past game, as Liberty Hill, will pass about as much as Lampasas ran the ball.

This Panther team is putting up a boat load of points and as a slot-t fan-base will understand those points will, on many possessions, take up valuable time.

The Lake will have a tough week as they will need a total team effort from all 3 phases of their game to stay up with this Panther club.

Go Hawks!!
