Needville was not Needy in their, 42-28 win over the Canyon Lake Hawks in this Bi-District Battle in Cuero.

Canyon Lake staged a late comeback that ended short and ended this season in their loss to Needville.

        Great Year & Go Hawks!!

“We were comparing Needville’s offense to Lampasas and having a Senior Quarterback in the playoffs is hard to beat,” Head Coach Charlie Drum said. “He was the difference in the game….he is a player. But, I was very proud of our guys, we were down 35-14 and they could have called it quits but they cashed in.”

The Lake did strike first with an 89 yard drive when Trenton Lorett cashed on his first run for 35 yards. Tristan Chacon would add a 26 yard run one play later which propelled CL for a quick touchdown on a Lorett 9 yard jet sweep for that first score.

“I did not get to come back and play until district started and I just wanted to give it my all,” Senior Everything Lorett said. “They were not expecting our plays on that drive….we went to the line so fast to start that play and we were able to punch them in the mouth on that play.”

Needville Blue Jays answered with a 72 yard drive using a mix of runs and passes to tie the score three minutes later.

This Blue Jay squad had been scoring with an alarming rate for much of this season and after a Needville defensive stop, helped in getting an edge for another quick score and lead, 14-7 at the beginning of the 2nd quarter.

Needville’s defense had several players in the box that helped stop CL’s counter and dive plays. Then two straight plays going around the end helped soften up the middle for Almond with two runs covering 18 yards and tying the score, 14 all.

That score would give the Blue Jays just enough time for another go ahead score before half and 7 point lead.

Canyon Lake had been struggling during the 2nd half for their last 3 games, and it seemed that might still be a hurdle to hard to clear, when Needville opened the 3rd quarter with 14 points on their first two drives and racing to a 35-14 lead before the start of the final 12 minutes.

            Proud of the Hawks!!

That is when the no quit Hawks would respond scoring on their first play to start the 4th quarter on a Chacon 44 yard run that put this Senior atop that 100 yard rushing plateau for his last time as a Hawk, 35-21.

A Hawk defense stopped Needville on a 4th down try deep on CL’s side of the field giving a slimmer of hope for the good guys.

On this drive, the Hawks, would pull off the ‘peanut play’ on two plays in a row having Lorett going untouched for 53 yards and leaving CL within 7 points, 35-28.

There would still be enough time for a chance to tie, but Needville’s QB Hrncir, would not be denied on the Jays next drive that would seal the game for the Blue Jays and season for Canyon Lake.

Lorett (156) and Chacon (134) both topped the century mark in helping Canyon Lake to pull off the upset.

Lorett and Chacon would finish 3rd & 4th respectfully on the All-Time Scoring Charts.

Thanks for your dedication and hard work in putting CLake on the map. Go Hawks!!
