CLJV Hawks Pile On in Win over Lampasas JV, 83-56

Kyle Morris was one of many Hawks that made life hard for the Badgers in an, 83-56 win.

The Canyon Lake Junior Varsity keeps piling on opponents after a run-a-way win, 83-56.

         Way to Stay Hot Hawks!!

For a Junior Varsity being able to score 83 points is certainly not a common occurrence and this would certainly rank high if not the best scoring output for a Hawk Junior Varsity in this schools 10 year history.

There was a time when Caleb Kreiger was playing on the JV team as a transfer student who could have been playing for the Varsity in a heartbeat. The 6’7 inch Kreiger led CL during his Senior season in scoring the most points in one year until last season when Parker Mott surpassed his 406 mark.

“We had talked about being able to play at our pace and that helped set the tone,” Head JV Coach Javier Almanza said in trying to catch his breath. “We are better when we run and we wanted to be aggressive but under control.”

This contest started with each team exchanging blows in a heavy weight fight after the Badger JV started with a quick 5 point lead. The Hawks answered that 5 point start with a 15 point run all done within that first 4 minutes of action.

Lampasas was not finished tho, and returned fire by outscoring CL, 19-5, with 5 minutes remaining in that second period leading, 24-20.

The JV Lake might have been knocked down but got up quickly and finished that next 4 minutes with another onslaught returning fire in outscoring the Badgers, 18-4 and leading 38-28 going into intermission.

           Let’s Go JV Hawks!!

The Hawks decided to end this back and forth fight with a flurry after outscoring their Visitors 29-9 during the 3rd quarter and enjoying, 67-37.

Patrick McAuliffe inflicted the most pain on these Badgers scoring 30 points with 12 of those points scored in that Second Half opening 8 minutes.

“We had been just going through the motions and we decided to get hyped and they could not meet our enthusiasm,” McAuliffe said while sinking a free throw. “They had a hard time playing defense and they were slow in getting back.”

All facets for CL was played at a high level with Pearse McCullagh (14) and Tyler Pauly (13) points and joining McAuliffe in the double digit brigade.

CLJV was led with a 6 steal night from Kyle Morris who matched Pauly and McAuliffe with 3 assists to compliment this complete game showing.

“It takes a lot of energy for a press and our steals made it easy to score points,” Morris said. “We have a lot of chemistry and we play good together….we have a bunch of guys that are really good players and if we get slapped then we have guys who can come in and get it done.”

           Way to Go Hawks!!

Peyton McMullen and Matt Taliaferro brought their brush in commanding the the paint with a combined 17 rebounds. Both contributed 16 points in this barrage of scoring.

The Badger JV was able to cut CLJV’s lead to 9 points, 43-34 with 4:30 left in that 3rd quarter and that was when the avalanche finally caught up with Lampasas. The Hawks outscored our Visitors, 24-3 to end that period for a game—set—-match.’’

CL’s largest lead soared to 34 points at the start of the final period, 73-39 as the Hawks coasted to the final seconds.

Good ending for this first half of the year and now the Hawks can set their sights on higher goals as district play starts up in January.

Way to Go Hawks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
