Hawks Can’t Climb Hill after Slow Start in Loss to San Marcos Home School, 57-50
Canyon Lake could not get over the hump after a slow start in loss to San Marcos Home School last Tuesday night at the Hawk Nest, 57-50.
“We never could get over the hump,” Head Coach Lukas Chapman stated. “We couldn’t make the big shot and they did…we came out flat and no energy.”
Rico Griffin (14) and Sam Schimank (18) both finished in double digit scoring but the Hawks opened with a 7 point deficit after the first quarter and was able to tie it up once after a flurry of points capped off by a Schimank 3 pointer from a Parker Mott pass that tied the score 18 all with still 5:30 left before halftime.
San Marcos started a 11 point run that was stopped when Jeremy Duncan’s reverse lay-up stopped the Home-School onslaught, 29-20.
The Lake would close the gap several times to a 7 point San Marcos lead to see them hit a key basket that would keep their distance from being compromised. Winning the 2nd half was a good sign, but San Marcos was able to win the first two quarters with a bigger margin.
CL was able to keep their turnovers low but a great shooting night for the visitors would make that a mute point as the Hawks were able to garner just 17 defensive rebounds in this loss.
The Lake will be idle for a week and will take on Lampasas at home this coming Tuesday. Come and support our Hawks!!
