Lady Hawks Shoot, Bombs Away, In Win over Stacey & Hawks Top 3 Stats
The Lady Hawk Basketball squad had a, bombs away, evening in their win over Stacey, 51-14.
There were some good signs for The Lake as a 47% shooting from beyond the arc that had a Canyon Lake record 8 made shots.
“Yeah, we shot it lights out in that first half,” Head Coach Zach Burleson assessed. “Shooting 8 for 17 from the 3 point range. We have good shooters and last night they really came through.”
On Coach Burleson’s thoughts on future contests, “We will continue to work on shooting and hopefully some more performances like that are down the road.”
CL was led by Sophia Barber (15) and Marley Carrizales (13) scoring in double figures while Jesse Melendez finished with 9 rebounds with 6 coming on the offensive side of the court.
An overall good shooting night while many of the players had a chance to work on their offensive game in preparation for their upcoming district season in January.
This game would be over after that fist quarter, after CL scored 14 points which would be the amount scored by the Stacey Eagles for this contest.
Barber was the leading scorer last season playing for the Hawk Junior Varsity and has started to carry that part of her game to that next level after making 6 of 8 shots while leading the Hawks with 5 steals.
“Hard work is paying off in shooting 3’s in practice,” Barber cut. On the loss to FEAST in last week’s tournament, “We need to keep from letting our head down and keep shooting that was a totally different mind set and think we can do it.”
Barber’s comments come after a sub-par outing in their only loss during last week’s tournament.
Carrizales sank 3 shots outside the arc which matched her total for the year while shooting 5 for 8 from the floor in this win.
Canyon Lake had contributors from all facets while Caroline Kullberg’s two blocks put her within 6 of tying Amber Ramsey (99) for the All-Time record.
Kaitlyn Cox had extensive time on the hard wood and finished with 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and scoring a 3-point play, the old fashion way, with an and one free throw.
“When our shots start falling it becomes contagious,” Cox said in commenting on how well the team shot in this win. Cox, commented on how Canyon Lake will need to do as district play comes calling, “We will need to work hard in practice and bring that from practice to the game! Our mind set needs to change where we work harder and together.”
Contributions were together in this win, with all the Hawks, in securing a rebound and Adia Garcia with a pivot move under her basket that resulted in a nice field goal.
Good win with some learning moments as Canyon Lake will take their (10-4) record to their next battle against Stockdale this Friday.
