CL Hawks finished their first home game behind the Luling Eagles in losing, 32-27.

                       Go Hawks!!

Both teams were as, cold as ice, for much of the game as Luling went into that final quarter with a 2 point lead, 16-14.

“We played hard,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “We are not taking care of the ball and that is hurting us.”

Coach Burleson continued, “Defensively our effort is there but we are not securing the ball on rebounds and we need to feel more urgency and get those opportunities.”

If CL’s Jesse Melendez would have missed this contest then the Hawks would not scored in the first or third quarters.

The Lake was only able to place 4 players being penciled in for the official score sheet.

Melendez led the Hawks with 12 points as she played well against an opposing player that was intimidating and tall.

Marley Carrizales led CL with 8 rebounds and scoring 6 points as all four of her made free throws came during the 2nd quarter.

“We have got to get more intense and put more effort,” Carrizales stated. On what the team will do to get back on track, “Practice harder and challenge ourselves…what we have to do—to get it done and keep it like that so we can get better.”

Marion had 16 points entering the last quarter and were able to match that total as their shots had opened up.

After Lainee Moses tied the game to start the last 8 minutes, the Eagles scored the next 12 points in as they opened their lead to 12 points, 28-16.

Canyon Lake was able to put a scare on their visitors when Melendez scored with 47 seconds left getting your Hawks within two, 29-27.

Luling free throws would seal the deal as CL would be looking up at a 5 point loss.

Canyon Lake will be back in action at New Braunfels Christian Tournament with two games tomorrow starting at 1pm against SA Lutheran and 4:45p in a game with FEAST.

Go Hawks!!
