On New Year’s Eve, CL teams traveled to Seguin High School to take on the Matadors. The Junior Varsity squad had a good showing against a quality Seguin side with the Final being, 1-1.

             Go CL Boy’s Soccer!!

Canyon Lake played good quality defense with the high press in the second half and had many opportunities to score. The score at half was 1-0, but the Hawks were able to make it level with a long goal by Trenton Butler from outside the 18 on the right wing. Some notable players were Tristan Rodgers and Connor James at the Centerback positions and Trenton Butler playing both Wingback and Wing.

The Varsity had an even better showing against the Matadors. It started out a little choppy, but eventually the squad would get their attack going. In minute 15, Matt Bell scoreed with a header off of a corner kick by Josh Nelson to get the offense going. Two minutes later during the 17th minute, Nash Young scored off of his knee with an assist from Josh Sczech to put the Hawks up, 2-0.

In the 30th minute, off of Hawks’ high defensive pressure, Aaron Allmon scored on a counter to make it, 3-0. In that 33rd minute, Nash Young would strike again, off of another facilitating thrown ball by Josh Sczech which would end the first half with the Hawks leading 4-0.

         Hit them hard Hawks!!

To continue the CL’s scoring in the second half, Josh Szcech put away a Penalty Kick in the 42nd minute, which put the Hawks up 5-0. During the 56th minute, the Hawks conceded a goal and with Canyon Lake up,  5-1,  the Hawks would finish the scoring when Matt Bell scored off of a bicycle kick into the back of the net to finish and a Final score, 6-1.

Moving forward, the JV will travel to Salado Friday evening. Game time is at 4:00 PM and the Bus will depart at 1:00 PM Friday. Athletes need to show up ahead of time to get their uniforms. The Varsity will be traveling to the Gonzalez Tournament to take on Giddings which will be a rematch from last year’s first round of playoffs.
