Canyon Lake lost their 4th Quarter lead at the 6:50 mark of the 4th Quarter and could not reel in the Billies for a win in losing, 49-46.

The Hawks were on the door step and had even entered the Billies house after having a 19 point 2nd Quarter forging a 5 point halftime lead.

            Proud of The Hawks!!

“I thought we played really tough and really well, especially on the defensive side of the ball,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman quipped. “We came in with a plan to disrupt what they do offensively, and we were able to do that.”

CL was able to hold the Billies 10 points under their season average but on the flip side, the Hawks, were held 10 points under their season average too which resulted in this close loss.

Sam Schimank had 5 behind the arc makes and finished with 19 points in leading Canyon Lake.

Not getting to the free throw line was another reason for a low scoring game while committing 24 turnovers with many being of the unforced variety.

Parker Mott had 11 points and led CL with 4 assists in the loss.

The Hawks were without Rico Griffin in this battle and the bench was only able to coax 5 points in this affair.

Canyon Lake shot 34% from 3-Point Land while making just 7 two-point shots. An indicator on how well Fredericksburg defensed the paint and with just 6 steals for the home team not leading to very few lay-ups. That has been a staple for CL this season.

                Go Canyon Lake!!

“I’m very proud of the way we competed and got after them,” Coach Chapman closed. “I’m disappointed for the kids that we didn’t pull out the win. They played hard enough and deserved to win that game. If we can do that night in and night out we will be in every ball game from here on out.”

Canyon Lake will have an opportunity to prove that Coaches prediction this Friday when the Hawks travel to Bandera as the first round of district games continue.

Go Hawks!!
