Canyon Lake was able to get their Law Degree in a win over the Center Point Pirates at the Hawk Nest on Wednesday in a noon tip-off, 75-23.

          Proud of these Hawks!!

CL was able to get that degree working on their, ‘Law of Averages’ degree, and in so doing had an outcome where they shot 44% from beyond the arc.

Some of the Hawk players enjoying success with their diploma was Chandler Hunt and Luke Mendez who were able to sink their first 3 pointers of the year in this game. Going into this affair those two players were a combined, 0-17 from previous contests.

Nic Rivera and Ben Rowe were able to advance with this same ‘Law Degree’ in sinking 5 beyond the arc shots as a tandem, as they too, were not in the upper echelon in making this shot. Rivera had a 20% rate on 30 shots while Rowe used his 3 for 4 in this contest to help his 18% percentage before this law class was opened.

All told, The Lake, had 6 different players drain a 3 point attempt while leaving 3 Hawksters, that have had success, without a make in this middle of the day battle, Rico Griffin, Sam Schimank, and Trent MacRoberts.

The Law of Averages was advanced in another facet of higher education from the free throw line. Canyon Lake is embarking on one of their best shooting percentages and upped that Average in making 8 of 9 from the Free Throw Line.

           Way to Go Hawks!!

Yes, Center Point, was not a formidable opponent but when faced with a ho-hum win, it is up to that team with the advantage to work on items that will become instrumental when district games get going later this month.

Free Throws is one of those areas that can give teams a chance to get back into a game or in keeping and increasing an existing lead.

Counting this contest, CL’s starting 5 are making 70% of their charity stripe shots while the rest of the bench comes in with a respectable 55% chance of being on the plus side in this statistical stat. This is part of the game that will either be a reason for winning or losing a game.

In this Law of Averages degree, Canyon Lake can realize and point to areas that will help in achieving a chance for another year of playoff action.

The Hawks had 4 players reach the double digit scoring brigade led by Parker Mott (17) who now will only need 2 points to pass Rory Preiss for the All-Time Scorer in Canyon Lake annals.

                                      Top 5 All-Time Scorers

                                   1) Rory Preiss 760
                                   2) Parker Mott 759
                                   3) Andrew Riali 594
                                   4) Matt Magness 555
                                   5) Brandon Ward 498

Jeremy Duncan and Anthony Zavala both finished with 12 points followed by Ben Rowe’s 10 points with this win.

North Shore UMC says Way to Go Hawks!!

Rowe has been working back into the fray after an illness during the Christmas Break and added to his stat line with 4 steals, an assist, and 5 rebounds. It looks like he is back, and having a 3 for 4 three point game was icing on this proverbial cake.

Griffin continues to contribute in all areas of his game after a poor shooting (0-5), he was still engaged after reaching a high for this year of 8 assists and 6 steals to make up for those missed shots.

CL’s bench was able to score 35 points and will see if that booster shot of confidence will be able to get a Law of Averages degree when district games begin in earnest next week.

An expected win but learning in the classroom will hopefully be the biggest Victor for this season.

Congrats on your Law Degree and Go Hawks!!
