CL Hawks JV Build Confidence in Win over Wimberley JV, 58-50
Peyton McMullen and Tyler Pauly wreak havoc on Texans in win, 58-50.
CL Hawks JV take the Texans to the Woodshed after making their opening statement with a 10 point first quarter onset in scoring 19 points, 58-50.

The Hawks had 3 players reach double digit status with Tyler Pauly leading the way with 19 points followed by Patrick McAuliffe (17) and Peyton McMullen (12).
McAuliffe, who finished with 10 rebounds, did most of his damage during the opening period while McMullen was true with two consecutive 3 pointers to start the game.
Pauly took over in the 2nd Half scoring 14 points while dishing out 5 assists during the 1st Half making his presence known throughout the contest.
Wimberley was doing a good job to start the battle while trailing just two points (8-6) with half the quarter in the books. Then a Hawk 11-3 run to finish the period.
The Lake JV continued their dominance in stretching their lead to 21 points in the 3rd quarter, 41-20 with a little over a minute to play before the last quarter.
The Texans did stage a blitz in clawing back to within 7 points from the Hawk score, 57-50 but the mountain was too steep to conquer as the clock showed 17 seconds to play.
“I told the team that if we could hold Wimberley to 50 points then we would have a chance to win,” Head Coach Javier Almanza said. “Our big challenge was to play defense and be intense on the defensive end. I wanted them to focus and play a defensive game.”

That certainly paid out in dividends during those first 3 quarters of play as the Texans failed to reach 10 points and trailed, 44-25 going into that final stanza of play.
“We slowed down their offense and our half-court offense was really good,” Coach Almanza continued. “We were making the extra pass and Kyle (Morris) has been playing great for us and Peyton (McMullen) is starting to believe in himself and is not as laid back and when he is stepping on the court a different person.”
McMullen had a busy stat line in scoring 12 points and 5 rebounds while leading the team with 4 steals and 2 blocks.
“It felt good and I was surprised when my 3 point shots went in,” McMullen recalled. “We worked on our preparation before the game and stay mentally focused.”
Pauly had an impressive game with his scoring and running the offense, but the main attribute for this ball handler was committing just two turnovers. That is a low amount based on the amount of time with the rock and setting the table.

“I was just trying to match their intensity,” Pauly started. “We wanted to come out and getting ready to play.”
That was an understatement as that was a good start and in holding back the Visitors runs for a much needed win.
“We will have to continue to work with no lapses and continue this success,” Pauly closed with a steal.
CLJV will be on the road next week and return in two weeks.
The JV team needed help to break this Hawk slump and CL has not lost on any of those games covered by The ReSporter.
