The Lady Hawk’s Basketball team finished their non-district games with a win over Johnson City, 48-35.

Don’t Give them any Comfort in the Country & Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake outscored the Eagles, 28-14 in the second half, helping to eliminate a one point deficit and get this decisive win.

“We really had an opportunity to take control of the game in the beginning but just threw the ball away and didn’t block out and missed easy shots,” Head Coach Zach Burleson recounted. “We did a better job in the second half and were able to pull it out.”

CL had Chelsea Tschoepe (12) and Marley Carrizales (13) with double digit scoring and Jessie Melendez (9) continuing her impressive play in securing rebounds.

The Hawks were able to have double digits with their assists (12) and steals (15) in helping to get separation and eventual victory.

“Marley (Carrizales) and Jesse (Melendez) got us going with their defensive effort. Lainee (Moses) and Caroline (Kullberg) really started making good passes while Chelsea (Tschoepe) took charge the last 3 quarters and made some real good decisions,” Coach Burleson continued. “Overall, we have to avoid spells like we had in the first half. There is no room for stretches like that in district.”

Canyon Lake will have several teams from this year’s district that will make that a truism.

       Proud of The Lady Hawks!!

“We got to play with intensity, block out and secure the ball,” Burleson closed. “We also need to shore up our layups and easy looks. If we can do that then we have a good chance.”

Kullberg’s 5 blocked shots continues to move the meter in passing Amber Ramsey earlier than expected as the All-Time Rejecter of Shots.

Canyon Lake improved on their earlier win over Johnson City and will see if this Hawk club can start with a win in Boerne this Friday as District 28-4A gets going in earnest.

The Lake can even their overall record to the .500 mark with a win and more importantly being 1-0 to start district play.

Go Hawks!!
