Canyon Lake is in a new position before they start their district schedule next week, they have the best record and are in first place.
That speaks volumes for a team that did not sniff a chance of making the playoffs or even having a winning record a pipe dream a few years ago.
This group of Seniors were involved with CL’s playoff run two years ago when the Hawks went further than any Hawk Sport after losing by one goal in the Sweet 16 contest.
Now, that team received a bye to start post-season play but that was not a favor since the first game was against a Salado team that had suffered just two losses and both of those set-backs were to highly ranked teams.
The Hawks then sauntered to Yoakum to play a Gonzales team that had disposed of Fredericksburg in their second round contest. Gonzales had a huge crowd for a game that was 30 miles away compared to the Hawk Nation having to travel right at 2 hours to be in attendance.
Granted, the Hawk crowd would have been the same if that battle would have been closer but it did pay for those Apaches as they filled their side of the stadium.
The Lake was ready from the opening kick and scored within 30 seconds of the start and surprised another high ranked opponent.
That next round was lost by just one goal and the Hawks were right in that game till the final clock read, 0:00.
This year looks similar as Goal Keeper Brayden Damico has been nails and has given up just one game of more than 2 goals…that game had 3 goals scored..
A good Hawk team to go see and play before district ends and you find the playoffs in a far off city.
District 28-4A has 5 teams and there will be only one school to not make the Dance.
Go Hawks!!
