Hawks Softball Run Out of Ammo in Loss to Marble Falls, 12-9
Canyon Lake’s Softball team ran out of ammo in loss to Marble Falls, 12-9.
“We had a lot of offense today in scoring 23 runs,” Head Coach Hayley Galloway stated in recalling an earlier win in scoring over 14 runs. “Defense…we need to shore up and that will help us cut out those big innings.”
Firepower would not be a problem in this battle as both schools lashed out a combined 26 hits with 7 of those as extra base endeavors.
CL had 5 of those extra base hits led by Adrianna Peaslee who punished the outfield fence with 2 doubles that resulted in 4 rbi’s.
The table was sit by the top of the order with Bailey Bryan and Marley Carrizales with a combined 6 hits and 5 runs.
MF Mustangs started this late starting tournament game scoring 2 runs after a lead off triple and two more hits to get those runs.
CL responded with a 3 spot next when Bryan started this contest with a walk followed by.a Carrizales bunt and Angelina Rodrigues single….then a little dicey with two straight outs still had Hawks on the ponds when Jesse Melendez clobbered a double driving all three Hawks and a lead.
That Hawk advantage was short lived with MF’s garnering 5 singles that had a CL error keeping the inning live and some unearned runs.
Kaylee Puente tripled to open the bottom of the 2nd inning and then a Peaslee double in getting one run closer to this Mustang club.
“We need to get the team going and end by going all out,” Peaslee said when responding bout how the Hawks kept responding in this contest. “We need to work on some of the little things and then tie them all together.”
In getting the season tied together was reminiscent from last season as CL started their last two years playing against larger schools which will always bring out parts of the game that need to solved when district play begins.
Kenzie Sayles settled in with two scoreless innings that had Canyon Lake scoring 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th and closing the gap to a one run game, 7-6.
It was Bryan and Carrizales who once again started the 4th inning with singles before Peaslee and Melendez responded with two singles. CL did leave the bases loaded, missing out for a chance to break this contest open for the Good Gals!!
The Falls would get some more help from CL’s fielding with 4 of the 5 run inning being unearned.
Canyon Lake did not quit scoring 3 runs but not enough in that final inning due to a tournament time limit game.
You guessed it, Bryan and Carrizales were the instigators once again with Peaslee with her 2nd double in driving in those final runs.
Canyon Lake will be back in action for 2 more Saturday games and will welcome a home cooking contest on Tuesday when the Gonzales Apaches come to the hill-country.
Go Hawks!!
