Canyon Lake was able to take advantage of Jourdanton mistakes while getting back in the win column, 4-3.

                 Let’s GO HAWKS!!

CL was able to hold 10 Indian baserunners on base after giving up 12 hits and minimal damage with a well pitched contest by Matt Anderson who got his win and first save of the season. You read that right, Anderson saved his game after being relieved by Tanner Schultz before re-entering the game and keeping the Indians scoreless.

“I’m proud that the boys found a way to get the ‘W’,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “Matt (Anderson) pitched his butt off. We cashed in on a couple of chances and let a couple slip away.”

The Hawks stopped their 2 game skid with some timely hits and some nifty base running with a double steal that had Tyler Pauly scoring after stealing home.

Anderson was on the mound and went 4 innings, then left the game with Tanner Schultz taking over in the 5th inning.

The Lake still had the lead after scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th frame that had Anderson reaching base on a walk and Ethan Slater was hit by a pitch. Jeremy Greene was caught stealing as a pinch runner for Anderson and then Caleb Williams had his 2nd hit of the game with a double scoring Slater.

Brandon Robinson would knock in Williams with his 2nd hit for a 3 run cushion that CL would need for this eventual win.

                   Go Hawks!!

Only six hits but walks, reaching base by error, and being hit by pitch gave Canyon Lake enough pressure applied to get this much needed win.

The bottom of the 6th inning had Anderson returning to the mound with just one out and two batters on base by a single and walk.

A pop out and a strike-out would still have the Hawks with a slim one run game.

When asked if he had ever asked his starter to re-enter the game, Coach Escamilla commented, “I’ve have had a starting pitcher re-enter before….I don’t like to do it but it’s an option. We were depleted in the pitching department due to the tournament the previous weekend. We had to stretch our guys today and they responded.”

             Way to Go Hawks!!

The last inning had a similar situation with two Indians on base via a single and another player reaching due to an error with CL still looking for their first out.

Anderson would go out in style with a pop-up out to Pauly followed a strikeout. An infield single would load the bases with no place to put the next Indian.

The 8th strike out would finish the game and run Canyon Lake’s record to 8-4-1 with another outing on Thursday with the first pitch at 1pm. Luling will be at the Hawk Nest!

Go Hawks!!
