Canyon Lake finished their Hawk Tournament with a 4th place finish after a loss to, 11-3-1 Austin McCallum Knights, 6-3.

Bunk-Haus says Way to Go Hawks!!

“We found out a lot about ourselves this weekend,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We played good competition and we know where we need to improve mentally ad on the field. Our guys are all in and that’s all I can ask for!”

The big picture has Canyon Lake still possessing their best record at this stage of the season with a few more non-district battles before the next important district contests come calling.

That Knight schedule has some common future contests on their resume.

                 Fredericksburg Tied 6-6
                 Wimberley Won 4-1
                 Llano Won 6-1

That should go well with what Coach Escamilla can come away in how this group of players will be able to improve before those games with their district brethren in a few weeks.

Tyler Pauly was on the mound and the Knights were able to squeeze a run with two outs in the top of the 2nd inning.

The Lake would storm to the lead in the bottom half of the inning on no hits when McCallum was wild on a sacrifice bunt by Tanner Schultz that helped advance the CL runners around the bases.

AC was able to get their next run on pure speed after an opening single that led to two stolen bases and scoring on a ground out that tied the score, 2-2.

It was the 4th inning that would make a chance for a comeback more difficult after securing 4 singles, some more stolen bases before the damage was doused, that had McCallum with a, 5-2 advantage.

Another run in the top of the 6th frame finally had a Hawk response when CL started the inning with two consecutive hits on two consecutive pitches by Brandon Robinson and Pauly. Canyon Lake’s last run was scored on a fielders choice one out later and the final score, 6-3.

           Hit them hard Hawks!!

Some errors in the field, base running mistakes, and a better quality of at bats will go a long way in reeling these games in for better results as this season matures.

Canyon Lake will be in action twice during the Spring Break time slot as the Hawks travel to Jourdanton on Wednesday and then Luling will end the week with a home game that will start at the Hawk Diamond on Thursday with the first pitch coming at 7pm.

Go Hawks!!
