JV Hawk’s Softball Run Circles round the Bulldogs, 13-5

The Canyon Lake JV finished their first round of District 28-4A with a 3-1 record after taking care of Bandera’s JV squad, 13-5.

Hannah Gallagher and Kaitlyn Keltner taking it all in after win over Bandera JV.

The Lake’s only defeat in that first round came on the road in Fredericksburg as this deep JV team reached their maximum runs in those first two innings. Those frames were a combination of walks and just enough hitting that had a comfortable, 10-3 lead going into that 3rd inning.

Alex Jones had a triple with her second at bat knocking in two runs. Jones would steal home during the next batter’s sequence that helped continue this onslaught over these PuppyDogs.

Jaden Castillo was another Hawkster that had a key hit helping put an end to these Bandera Bulldogs.

Lead off hitter, Hannah Gallagher, has been working on her slap hits and with each at bat she seems to be more comfortable coming to the plate. Those type of hits will allow fast players chances to reach first base even if their hit is fielded.

“I’m getting better and I am just trying to make contact, we did ok today.” Gallagher said nonchalantly.

Gallagher, has a hitting coach that lives in her same house, as Coach Mary-Beth Gallagher, in her hey-day, just missed a chance of being picked for our Olympic Softball team back in the day.

How does that play out at home? “She talks to me and let’s me know what I need to work on but she does congratulate me and she builds me up just like a good coach and Mom.”

On what this JV Team will need to do when Fredericksburg’s JV squad comes to The Lake? “We will need to focus and communicate and talk it up,” Gallagher said like a young lady with high aspirations.

              Let’s Go JV Hawks!!

In Softball, most JV’s will be able to dominate if that girl in the circle can take control and get pitches across the plate. In this battle, the Bullpup’s walked 9 Hawks which put pressure on their defense and helped extend innings.

CLJV has had a solid pitcher this season as Kaitlyn Keltner has been a consistent contributor in helping subdue opposing batters. In this contest, Keltner only gave up 3 walks combined with her 8 strikeouts.

That double whammy will go a long way in realizing wins at the end of those time-limit games.

“I want to get more wins,” Keltner said in response to what her goals were to finish out this year. “Our team is getting better and I am getting more confident and I just need to win the battles.”

Keltner stated that winning those battles comes when every opposing player enters the batter’s box. “Yes, I look at each batter as being a battle and it is my job to win those battles.”

                Way to Go Hawks!!

On her thoughts as this team starts their 2nd round of district contests, “Our defense and communication is getting better and when we get down, we will need to help and bring each other up.”

That last statement was in regards to that one loss suffered earlier this week and getting those little things in order will allow for bigger wins as this group will be keying on winning more contests to conquer this district.

Canyon Lake will be in action this coming Tuesday when Boerne will be in town with a different breed of dog and hopefully have those Greyhounds running home.

Go Hawks!!
