Canyon Lake was void of any good vibes as the pitching, hitting, and defense decided to stay home for the Hondo Championship game in loss to Zapata, 14-1.

Way to be a Hero Hawks!!

The game started with a one pitch hit for Caleb Williams and then after a two out single by Tyler Pauly, the Hawk momentum was quickly halted in the bottom of that same inning with a Zapata 3-spot and lead that would never be threatened again.

The Valley Hawks proved that they were superior to this Hill-Country Hawk when they exploded for a marathon 3rd inning that saw 50 CL Hawk pitches with 15 Valley Hawks coming to the plate to inflict their form of pain on this upstart Canyon Lake team.

“There are some things we need to work on and we some some things that challenged us today,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said with resolve. “When you get tested then you will get exposed.”

Coach Escamilla continued, “Holding batters on first base and more of those happenings that we did not do….we (Coaches) see the big picture.”

Canyon Lake still has some good take-aways from their first 8 contests to start this campaign and have far exceeded on many stages after coming out of the blocks sporting a, 6-2 record.

Last year, The Lake came out of this tournament sporting a 4-4 record and compare to previous seasons, this foundation can still produce a solid house when the this year’s games come to an end.

A 1-7 start two years ago will be able to help the casual CL Hawk fan of seeing a bright spot, but for the players, this is where the ‘short’ memory of a baseball season will come into play.

                    Let’s Go Hawks!!

And that is one place that this team cannot commit an error.

A 2nd Place finish in the Devine-Hondo Tournament is another good sign for a the beginning of a long season.

Canyon Lake will be back in action this next Thursday when they host their 3rd and final tournament and finishing in the upper echelon would be a good omen for greater things as this season matures.

Way to Go Hawks!!
