Canyon Lake could not pull off an upset in their game with Boerne on Friday after losing their lead in the 5th inning, falling, 3-2 to the Greyhounds.

Let’s Go Hawks & Stay Cool!!

Putting things into perspective, The Lake, has not had a lot of success with Boerne and by the way this contest finished it did show that the Hawks are improving as they make their push during this 2nd round of District 28-4A play.

“Coach Lancaster and I are very proud of the boys and the direction of our program,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We can’t always measure the progress of a program on wins and losses! We are competing with our district rivals more so this year than in the past, including last year. Our boys will continue to work hard.”

A look at the past 3 years with results against the Greyhounds. In being run-ruled in those past two years and now having each contest this season being a complete game is number one on this list of notes on improvement.

Boerne has had 13 innings of scoring 3 or more runs in a game while CL would keep this game close through the end of the contest.

             Year Score CL BH #
            2019 2 3 0
            2019 5 13 2
            2018 0 10 2
            2018 0 10 1 (had 8 run inning)
            2018 2 12 2
            2017 2 14 3
            2017 1 11 2
            2017 1 11 1 (had 7 run inning)

Now you can see a drastic difference in the performance based on previous years of play.

On this night, The Lake, would have their first lead, 1-0 in the series in those previous battles earmarked above. CL started with two quick outs and then Brandon Robinson was hit by a pitch which was followed by a Tyler Pauly single that put Robinson in scoring position at 2nd base.

The Hawks would then manufacture that first run with a double steal that would add Pauly to scoring status with a hit.

Matt Anderson was at bat and 2 pitches later had Robinson scoring after stealing home in giving Canyon Lake the lead. As Anderson would end this inning grounding out to the Greyhounds 2nd baseman.

The Hawks snuck another run in the 6th inning when Jeremy Greene cue balled a hit scoring Ethan Slater.

Anderson is having a good year on the mound as he lasted into the 7th inning in giving up just one earned run and striking out 8 in the loss.

Canyon Lake will go be in Wimberley this Tuesday as this 2nd round continues as these Hawks fight for a seed for their 2nd year in a row of post-season play.

Go Hawks!!
