The Lady Hawk’s Volleyball team had a strong 2-1 finish in their round robin pool play after beating San Marcos to end their Thursday battles, 25-21 and 25-19.

                 Go Hawks!!

“We could have won our pool,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “I loved our intensity and fight today….our defense and seeing how our team played together was totally different from our match we played against Poth last Tuesday.”

The Hawks started slow in both games against San Marcos, trailing 11-7 and 11-9 to start each set in what was eventually a sweep against the host school.

CL finished each game with a 16-9 and 15-8 runs and what turned a tight contest into a much more comfortable sweep that will have The Lake in the 2nd round of teams on Saturday.

This Rattler Tourney will be sandwiched with a contest on the road against Austin Akins on Friday.

Canyon Lake was powered with 7 blocks (9 for the Match) in that final game which would change the direction of this contest and power your Hawks to a victory.

In that final game, the Rattlers were hanging tough and two blocks by Megan Vorhis which gave CL their first lead, 8-7 and then Kayla Wunderlich matched that feat again giving the Hawks the lead again, 14-13 and would never trail again in this win.

Kayla Wunderlich and Megan Vorhis controlled the Nets in win.

“They (San Marcos) had a lot of hang time,” Wunderlich said in responding on how the Hawks were able to control the nets. “You have to have good timing and wait for the right time to jump.”

Canyon Lake has two players next to each other with each of those blocks which made a good defensive wall against the Rattler hitters to have success.

“We were able to get our intensity and play as a team,” Wunderlich closed. “It all depends on who wants it more.”

Vorhis was just as successful, “I have to rely on my outside hitter and we talk with each other when we are ready to go up….getting those blocks gives me a high and those blocks helped keep us going off that energy.”

That was certainly the case in this match as Taylor Fillinger also finished with 3 blocks with a final block from Caroline Kullberg that helped send this Host Team to their locker room.

This Hawk team will be busy these next two days and will continue to work on keeping that intensity and resolve for a good finish.

Go Hawks!!
