CL Hawks JV Tennis has Aces High in Win Over San Marcos JV
Canyon Lake’s Tennis team has not been a major focus throughout the first 10 years of existence but there might be a ray of sunshine coming through the clouds as the Hawks Junior Varsity beat San Marcos JV on the road this past Monday.
This is the best Junior Varsity Tennis team yet for The Lake, in fact, this is the first JV team for Canyon Lake so seeing this team take out a larger school is one of those signs the Hawk Nation can take in knowing that future contests might have better results.
“Yes, this is the first year we’ve had enough kids to play some JV matches in the fall,” Head Coach Cory Mickey stated. “In the past, we were short on players, so the JV feel players and beginners were forced to compete vs. varsity competition and it just wasn’t a good situation for their growth and development of their own skills.”
That would be a key part of any sport in having a chance to play schools that had players in the same realm of playing skills…it would also help with confidence and not scare some of the players from the sport.
“This allows our players to compete against other players like them that or more similar in skill level…so they have rallies, keep the point going, and compete to win games and sets,” Coach Mickey continued. “It’s great for their game, but also for their confidence and simply enjoying the sport of tennis.”
Mickey finished, “We don’t play district JV, but there are a few schools in our area, like San Marcos and Wimberley that have enough kids playing that we can get together and have a team matches for the kids.”
On this day, CL’s JV were able to take a win over the Rattlers as the Hawks won 11-6 Matches.
“Our players fought for every point and competed hard and were very vocal in encouraging one another,” Coach Mickey recounted on this day of action. “We had several come from behind victories including Travis Parma playing #1 boys singles, Parma was down, 2-7 and came back to win, 9-7. He never gave up and took it one game at a time and fought back for the win.”
