Canyon Lake laid an egg during Homecoming night against Wimberley in grand fashion losing, 45-7.

“Wimberley came ready to play,” Head Coach Charley Drum started. “They are a good team and they ‘out physicaled’ us…we have not been ‘out-physicaled’ like that in a long time and I think that shocked our kids.”

                    Go Hawks!!

Coach Drum continued, “They had a great game plan and we are young but we have to learn from this and we have things to figure out.”

The game started with the Hawks forcing a Texan punt, which would be the only punt formation used for the rest of this night.

The Hawks responded with the same, 3 play and punt, with no damage by either team in this defensive Battle of the Backbone.

But that backbone would become a chicken wish-bone quickly as the Texans’, wish was granted, with a one play 64 yard pass play from Wimberley’s QB Cooper McCollum to Josh Limely touchdown.

The Texans would repeat and rinse 4 more times after Canyon Lake gave up 5 passing touchdowns with one rushing TD for grins in this loss.

So it was a night where Wimberley would have wishes granted (many times) while your Hawks stayed under a ladder on a Friday the 13th while a black cat crossed a yard line in front of the hapless Hawks. The 456 yards given up was 15th place for the most yardage allowed in a game.

The 219 yards gained, offensively, would be placed with that same number, as the 15th worse offensive night in Hawk history. With both sides of the ball having a fruitless night which tells a story of domination that was dished out by a Wimberley team that will have the Devil’s Back-Bone Trophy for the next 12 months.

                       Go Hawks!

Canyon Lake did have one explosive play when James Bates broke free for a 68 yard run that would lead up to the Hawks only score when Peyton McMullen found Kyle Yuill in the back of the end zone for a score. But that was way too little too late to make any difference in the outcome.

The Hawks will have to get back up and ready for another road game in Smithville. The ReSporter just checked and found that this next game will be Friday on the 20th and not 13th. Now CL will need to work on how to break those wish-bones to help re-align the earth’s axis for a better results next week.

Go Hawks!!
