Hawks Gold Come up Short in Loss to Judson, 24-12
Canyon Lake’s Gold team had another battle against a larger school and held their own in a, 24-12 loss to Judson.
The Rockets had two touchdowns on kick-off returns which off set any momentum being established by this Hawk team.
Cameron Valigura found a hole and was able to rush across the goal line for the Hawk’s first score to end that first quarter. This drive started on the Rockets 35 yard line and with Valigura’s 46 yard run was able to score in 5 plays to end the quarter, 6-8.
“I just took the ball into the line and was able to do a spin and then it was up to me to be running,” Valigura’s recount of his scoring run. “I just want to run and play hard and run as fast as I can so nothing can happen.”
In nothing happening, being the opposition defense catching Valigura’s run on his way for a score.
CL’s Gold team was able to drive to Judson’s 13 yard line before half, but the drive was stopped by a fumble and nothing to show for another good effort. This drive had 12 plays that started on the Hawk’s 36 yard line. Bade Holland had the highlight play with a 21 yard run that put the Hawks deep in the Rocket’s end of the field.
The Hawks came out of their half-time talk with a defensive stop and then their offense put together their 2nd scoring drive.
Chevy Standifer had 3 carries for 23 yards before Holland would cap off this drive with a 9 yard run and a chance for a tie.
“I think we got tired to start this game but we got excited and was able to go adapt as the game progressed,” Holland said like a Denmarkian.
That second wind was definitely in CL’s favor throughout this contest and take away a couple of special team plays and this would be a good indicator on how well this team has played since that first game this year.
The Hawk’s point after was not successful and that was when the Rockets would rocket down the field with their second kick-off return which quickly put CL in a hole that could not be climbed out of leaving Canyon Lake needing two scores for a tie or win.
This Gold Squad was able to move the ball again bus was stopped on Judson’s side of the field after another tough ending to that drive.
The Hawk’s Defense would help with one more stop when Joseph Calbat was able to intercept that would give The Lake one more chance to make things interesting.
Judson was up to the task with a team that had 3 times as many players and leaving Canyon Lake short.
Go back to the Gold’s first contest this year when they were outclassed big time against a Hay’s Junior Varsity team and the improvement has been impressive, even in this loss.
Now CL’s Gold team will have another chance against Hays, but this time, this team will be in the same age bracket and a chance to continue this season on a positive note.
This week’s game will commence on Wednesday at the Hawk Nest at 5:30pm against the Hays Freshman (B) team.
Come out and support this Hawk Gold Team and Go Hawks!!
