Volleyball: CL Hawks Fly Over Greyhounds, 3-1
Canyon Lake’s Volleyball won their first District 28-4A contest over the Boerne Greyhounds, 3-1 for their 8th win in a row.
With those early season losses to 6A and 5A schools has helped CL see the the fruits of those set-backs and will now continue to plow through well known schools as this young club looks to take their act further.
The Lake spotted this Home Team the first set before sweeping the Greyhounds in grand fashion to start district play.
Cassidy Felps continued her serving mastery ending this game with 4 Aces and taking their last set 25-6 as the Hawks started this set with a, 17-0 score before giving up a point to the Greyhounds.
This past Tuesday, CL finished Marion off with a 25-1 victory and now with a continuation coming in district play helping in improving on their seeding as the contests start to heat up.
Felps has upped her game by amassing 39 sets in this win giving this ‘quarterback’ of the Volleyball team some good numbers giving a good idea of how this Hawk team has started to come together.
“It’s not over…Let’s get going,” Kim Clemons said after the first set loss to Boerne. “That first set could have gone either way….we kept the pressure going and we were on a mission.”
That certainly played out with a Hawk Sweep with each set becoming more and more domination over Boerne.
“We had lights out defense and we sent them off the court as our girls never quit talking,” Coach Clemons talked excitedly.
Felps has some family issues in wanting to pass her Sister (Kyndall Felps) with more aces and at after this week’s action (20 aces), there will be another Felps at the head of the line when getting grub and bragging rights.
“We came out with more energy,” Felps stated in response to how CL took Boerne out after suffering that first set loss. “This was the first district game for many on our team and we started to react when we lost a point because we did not want to lose.”
On Felps secret on scoring so many Aces as this season has matured, “Coach gives me the person she wants me to serve too and if I have success, then we just continue to pick on that person and it starts to get into her head.”
Megan Vorhis has taken off these few weeks with her defense in piling up more Blocks with each passing contest.
“We decided to play with more energy and we just go loud and that got into their head,” Vorhis said. “I am always watching the other team during their warm-ups to see how they are getting their shots over the net. So, I can know how to get blocks during a game. I am talking with our team and letting them know where to line-up….we are talking all the time.”
Lainee Moses finished with 23 digs and continues to edge up the Hawk ladder in this category.
A good time to get to the Hawk Nest this coming Tuesday when you can see the a team that is coming into their own. The Llano Yellowjackets will be their foe as The Lake will look to get their winning streak up to 9 games.
Way to Go Hawks!!
