Volleyball: CL Hawks Just Miss Perfect Game, 25-1, 25-16, 25-19
Next up will be the Boerne Greyhounds after Canyon Lake took care of Marion on Tuesday night. The win gave the Hawks a 7 game streak and looking to be in good shape entering District 28-4A play.
Marion did not start this night in a good frame of mind, as The Lake, finished the first set with one unforced error which was the only point the Bulldogs would get in a total wipe-out for the Hawks, 25-1.
Yes, you read that right, the home team would end with just one score as Cassidy Felps would be the First Lady in the rotation and finished with no Hawk leaving their station. Felps, had 11 aces in that never ending rally from one point down and win.
“I have not been in a game like that ever,” Head Coach Kim Clemons said with finality. “I was on the losing end once when Alice faced a team that beat us, 25-2….and yes, neither point we scored was earned.”
Canyon Lake ended this night by sweeping Marion and will now prepare for district play.
“It was good getting our starters back on the floor,” Coach Clemons said after Canyon Lake being out of action all of last week. “In that 2nd and 3rd set it was good to get everyone in and being off a week and making those two sets more challenging. We were lucky to have this match as district has started for a lot of teams and our district is one of the last to start district contests.”
On what Felps was thinking throughout the start of this whitewash? “I was just placing my serve where Coach wanted to do….it was getting harder and harder but really focused.”
On what the team is thinking as the first district game starts on Friday? “District will be more serious and we have a lot of girls that have not played a district game and we are just going to, ‘Get Focused….Get Focused…it was good to have everyone play because we still all have a job to do.”
Sophomore Outside Hitter, Addyson Andrews, had some good kills with her game seeming to be more in tuned as those important contests start up….”This game allowed us to build confidence and we pushed till the end and finished it….it was good to get some different sets and I am getting my swing to be more comfortable.”
Canyon Lake will start on the road before being back at the Hawk Nest next Tuesday when Llano Yellowjackets comes to The Lake.
Congrats and Beat Boerne!!
