Lady Hawks Take Down Fredericksburg, 3-1
The Lady Hawks took care of business in win over Fredericksburg, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-19. The win can catapult Canyon Lake to a 3rd seed finish in District 28-4A with a win over Bandera this coming Monday.
“We knew what we had to do,” Head Coach Kim Clemons started. “We had to fight for every point and stay focused and work together….and we just dialed it in.”
The Billies came out with guns blazing in that first set as CL was not able to draw even until a tied, 18 all score. Then a 7-1 finish would get that first set win.
That was the same scenario the last time these two schools had played that turned out to be a 5 set loss and had your Hawks in a downward tailspin.
True to form, Freddie would win that 2nd match in the same manner as that first go around, 24-26 and it was deja vu all over again.
Canyon Lake would not open the door any longer with a sweep in those last two sets that would give Canyon Lake new life in this tough district.
Megan Vorhis led in 3 categories in the win with 12 kills, 4 aces, and 7 blocks. Controlling the net was her big asset while Cassidy Felps (30) and Lainee Moses (20) continued to control the assists and digs for your Hawks respectfully.
Bandera was a loss in the first round and a Hawk win on Tuesday would put CL all alone in 3rd place as both schools come into this final match with 4-5 records.
Fredericksburg will host the winless Llano team and if the Billies win then their would be a playoff with the loser of the Hawk/Bandera game for that final seed in district.
“We are going in the direction we need to go,” Coach Clemons said in response on where this team is going into this final game. “We need to keep building and evaluate our mistakes….we will just worry about ourselves and go get’em and no messing around and close the deal.”
Canyon Lake’s district will face District 27-4A echelon in that first round of post-season contests and at this writing the Hawks would have a possibility of 3 different avenues based on that final outcome.
A Win: Hawk 3rd Seed
A Loss: Hawk’s play Fredericksburg for the 4th Seed.
A Loss in that play-in game would have a Hawk 5th place finish and no post-season opportunities.
Liberty Hill is in first place in District 27-4A play with Salado one game ahead of Taylor. That would pit the Hawks with a game between either of those schools in Bi-District action.
That likely school in the first round would be Salado as they will face 4th seeded Burnet and Taylor is matched up against 1st place Liberty Hill.
Canyon Lake would play Liberty Hill if the above situation plays out with a Hawk 4th seed finish.
Clear as mud? The Hawks lost to Bandera in their earlier match, 3-1 and that was during that CL tail-spin that has hopefully played out.
A packed house at the Hawk Nest would be next up for the Monday game as the Hawk, STUDENT SECTION will need to be active with their coveted yell, POINT HAWKS!!
Go Hawks!!
