Tennis: CL Hawks Stepped Out with First in Competing in Bi-District
Canyon Lake’s Tennis takes small steps for greater strides for future years.
The Hawks went to battle against 11th ranked Liberty Hill in Bi-District last Tuesday in Marble Falls. The final counts was a 10-1 loss in a venue that had not been a venue not experienced in their history.
Senior Rico Griffin was the lone win as he won his single match 8-5, while other Hawk competitors competed in grand fashion.
“We had several matches that were close,” Head Coach Corey Mickey said proudly. “Liberty Hill had a very strong girls side.”
The Hawks #2 Doubles team of Colbyb Jackson and Zachary Elson lost 8-5 and #3 Doubles Gabriel Lara and Travis Parma lost their match, 8-6.
Matt Anderson was another Hawk that had a close but just out of the win column with a singles loss, 8-5.
This sport has begun those small steps in becoming a Canyon Lake sport that starts that upward trend as this year’s group of players had a strong field of Junior Varsity members. That is another first for the Hawks as previous seasons not enough players would mean the younger student’s playing against older teams and not much of a chance for positive results.
Congrats on a great season with hopes of bigger steps for future teams and Go Hawks!!
