CL Lady Hawks Basketball Sweeps Reagan & Blanco
Canyon Lake Ladies Basketball team continued their strong start with wins over Austin Reagan and Blanco last week. Those last two wins now has the Lady Basketball sport joining Volleyball and Football as the only Hawk sports with a .500 or better record since sports began in 2009.
“I think it is a testament to those girls…they have been involved in a lot of victories,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said in response at being .500 record wise. “We are going to try and string together some more w’s and hopefully keep it above for good.”
In the Blanco contest, your Hawks, had all hands on deck, with a full roster after starting this season with two starters nursing injuries.
“We are continuing to play well together,” Coach Burleson said. “Looking for each other and making the extra pass. That has led to open looks and a good shooting percentage.”
That was the formula in the win over Blanco with 15 assists for the 18 shots resulting in an out of this world 83% assist to made shot percentage.
“In our game with Blanco our guards were pretty good,” Coach Burleson continued. “I thought it was our best effort as far as rebounding on the past two years.”
That Panther win was led by Senior Chelsea Tschoepe scoring 24 points and shooting .500 from beyond the arc sinking 6 treys.
Lainee Moses joined Tscheope in double figures scoring finishing with 11 on this Saturday mid-day battle. Moses had a decent stat line missing a double-doubly by 2 assists and 3 steals.
Moses is the new Hawk leader in assists and passed Alexa Ramos for that top spot. With a good part of the season remaining, Moses will see how hard she can make it for future CLsters to reach her totals.
CL took a 2 point lead into the second quarter as that would be the last time this contest would have the Hawks leading in single digits. Canyon Lake outscored Blanco by 10 points and never looked back.
In the game with Austin Reagan, Canyon Lake did not look back after the tip-off finishing with a 33 point win with Sophia Barber as the only Hawk with double digit scoring with 11 points.
This game would have all but one player scoring as it would turn out to be a glorified practice for the Hawks.
Canyon Lake will be in action on Monday and Tuesday of this Thanksgiving week before they take a break until December.
Monday the Lady Hawks will host Providence with a 10am tip-off and then on Tuesday the Hawk Gym will be shared with the Boys and the ladies will battle it our against Randolph.
Way to Go Hawks!!
