Enough Said after CL Hawks Freshman Finish Season with, 16-6 Win over L-Hill

                                                             DISTTICT 28-4A CHAMPIONS!
                                                                    ENOUGH SAID!

Enough Said, after Canyon Lake Freshman beat Liberty Hill for their 3rd Championship in a row, 16-6.

Way to Pounce on them Hawks!!

This would be a different opponent than those previous 8 schools played by this vaunted Hawk squad. LH came into this contest with the same undefeated district record and the winner of this game would be crowned as the undisputed champion.

The Lake would have some flashbacks from those previous outings, this season, as the Freshman had an average score of, 48-5 and a running clock was in motion throughout all of those battles but one.

That one game? Was the loss to the Weiss Wolves that fell on special team and return game. No excuse but up unto this game, CL had punted just once all year and that punt happened to be returned for a TD and helped Weiss in their win.

CL had the same type of stats in that loss after holding the Wolves below 100 yards of total yardage as the other road kill teams that had Canyon Lake’s Freshman on their schedule.

You get the idea, real estate was easy to acquire during this season and so a habit of allowing opposing team’s punts to roll, as far as they would go. So these Hawks had more of that cheap real estate to pad their stats.

      Let’s Go Freshman Hawks!!

With a wind of over 20 miles an hour, Liberty Hill was held deep on their side of the field and their punt traveled 60 yards and had the Hawks starting on their 21 yard line. Going one or two plays and a score would not be a luxury and getting that ground back, that was lost in not fielding a punt, would be much harder in this contest.

The Hawks first drive stalled on LH’s 12 yard line after a 41 yard 10 play set of plays. Those 10 plays would have scored 30-40 points in previous outings.

Canyon Lake would score first on their 2nd drive, which had a 42 yard pass play from Hunter Anderson to Hayden Baker, as the catalyst play that moved the Hawks for their score. Before that explosive pass, The Lake had 3 plays of 2 to 4 yards total as Liberty Hill would not be fooled by those slot-t plays CL had thrived on throughout this season.

“We felt this game would depend on how hard we played,” Hunter Anderson surmised. “Our defense and D-Line would play their best game of the year as they just kept on fighting.”

Brett Harwell & Hunter Anderson indication how many Championships in a row this Hawk team has!

Hunter Anderson continued like a QB, “We have had a special run and I don’t feel anybody can match our heart.”

River Hand had a 11 yard run two plays later (the longest running play up to that point) put CL in scoring position at the Panther’s 4 yard line.

A Shayne Moss 3 yard loss and penalty had Canyon Lake with a 2nd down needing 17 yards for a score.

Hunter Anderson would find Chase Anderson for their 5th passing touchdown for the season and a Hawk lead, 8-0, after Hunter Anderson found Cole Cason for their 2 point after attempt.

Liberty Hill would respond on their next possession moving 65 yards in 7 plays which was accented when a Panther running back scored going wide and down the sideline from 28 yards out. CL stopped their running attempt on the point after and a slim, 8-6 lead would stand.

With just 2:41 left before halftime, Canyon Lake would score 6 plays later on a Moss bruising run that showed off power and speed down the Hawk sideline for 51 yards and leaving 18 seconds on the clock. Moss finished this game with 127 yards and 828 yards for the season.

Another 2 point run success story, on a Moss carry, gave Canyon Lake a 10 point, 16-6 lead that would hold up for the remainder of this battle.

During the 2nd half, LH had their first drive stopped on a Hunter Anderson interception at the Hawk’s 11 yard line with this drive taking most of the 3rd quarter.

        Way to Stay Hot Hawks!!

The Hawks had a longer drive, time wise, next reeling off 64 yards that stalled due to a holding penalty that was too much to overcome. This game was now 2 minutes into the 4th stanza and CL decided to punt and roll the dice that the Panthers would not be able to drive 92 yards.

But, CL’s defense would play a strong game and Defensive Lineman Brett Harwell led this iron clad group of players on this night.

“This was a dogfight on every play as this game was being played, ‘Under the Lights’,” Harwell stated as he looked up into the bright sky. “Winning the championship was very special and all the work we put into this year just paid off….”

Both players were in unison said, “One of the days we will be in Jerry World.” That is the place where High School Football has their State games.

Liberty Hill would still need two scores and those odds would favor the District 28-4A Champions. Four plays and an incompletion from their 11 yard line would have your Hawks needing just 11 yards for another nail in the coffin score.

Way to Go Hawks!!

To no avail as a Hawk fumble on their first play gave some Life, back in those Panther’s, Vest. A 40 yard run moved the ball to CL’s 29 yard line but that was the extent of the damage as Liberty Hill would have their next 4 plays gaining 5 yards.

Defense would rule the rest of this game and Hawk win.

LH’s only completion for the night was to a Hawk which proved to be the difference in this win. A, 26-1-1 record over the past 3 years will tell you all that needs to be said.

Or, Hawks Win, Enough Said!!
