Canyon Lake will be in a battle with Liberty Hill as the Panthers are fighting for a playoff spot and a win over The Lake would go a long way in realizing that goal.
This Series has not been kind to CL as Liberty Hill enjoys a convincing 5-1 record which has the Hawks able to reach 17 points of offense as their best outing.
Both teams run the slot-t offense and that has been playing right into the Panthers game since CL’s offense will not surprise LH and playing a team that has been using that form of offense longer. That realization has benefitted Liberty Hill in corralling The Lake these past few outings.
Canyon Lake might be a slight favorite this year but playing a team that needs a win for a Post-Season berth will always be a tough out.
This Panther team will be a run oriented team with Trey Seward and Blake Simpson leading their calvary as both players are in the top 3 in rushing in District 28-4A.
LH will not win by the pass as they come into this game with a 30 yard average per game via the air. CL’s passing game was awakened in last week’s game after the Hawks doubled their year’s total throwing for 263 yards.
Liberty Hill has had two QB’s that have thrown the pigskin but neither player has had a lot of opportunities in averaging under 5 passing plays per game.
Defense might be the key for a win tonight. The Panthers are at the bottom of district and most of that damage has been from opponents ground attack. This is where CL’s slot-t might not have as big of an advantage being that their opponent will not be fooled by those, who has the ball, moments.
The Lake enters this contest with a 2 game losing streak that came against the two schools that are leading district. Both game saw some encouraging signs but securing a 3rd seed would go a long way for playing a 2nd seeded school from District 27-4A.
Canyon Lake will need a strong rushing attack and with a little passing to keep Liberty Hill honest in not putting everyone in the box. James Bates leads the Hawks ground game and if CL can get that same passing weapon unleashed for this week, then this might be the year for a Lake win.
Jeremy. Greene reached 103 yards receiving last week and was joined by 4 other Hawk receivers. If QB Peyton McMullen can find those players then that will help in opening those running lanes.
Can Canyon Lake solve this Liberty Hill team? Time will tell and that is why they play the game…..Go Hawks!!
