Basketball: Hawk Boys Win 3 out of 4 Games in Kerrville OLH Tournament

Canyon Lake won 3 out of 4 game during their Kerrville OLH Tournament this past weekend which gave the Hawks a, 10-10 season record as they will start to prepare for district play that starts up the first part of January.

“It was really good to come back off a break and get some wins,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “It was also good to be back in the gym and get the season going again. We have won 6 in a row, so we just want to keep it going and be playing our best as we head into district.”
Rico Griffin scored 71 points in his 4 game stint during his two day’s of battles scoring 25 points against New Braunfels Christian which was half of CL’s total.
In their first contest, Peyton McMullen led CL’s efforts scoring 17 points with Griffin chipping in 16 for his efforts.
McMullen was 8 for 8 from the field and an old fashion 3 point play in sinking his one free throw. McMullen was not finished tho, as he led the Hawks with 7 rebounds.
This contest had every CL player but one that was able to secure a rebound in reaching 43 as a team in the win.
Rylee Spaulding finished with 11 points joining Griffin in the double digit scoring brigade.
With the win over Marble Falls Faith, the Hawks, had 3 players reach double digit scoring with Griffin (16), Patrick McAuliffe (13), and Nic Rivera (12) helping on the offensive side of the court.

In The Lake’s lone loss, Griffin was true to form once again scoring 15 points while the next highest Hawk being McAuliffe with 5 points. A lot of point blank shots that went awry that had your Hawks shooting desperately during those closing minutes that had San Marcos Home School increasing their lead to that final, 52-39 loss.
CL gave up 18 points off of their turnovers which would help in their demise along with giving up 17 second chance points and 34 points in the paint.
Canyon Lake was able to extend their winning streak that allowed the Hawks to even their season record to 10 wins and 10 losses.

The Hawks were missing some players on those Saturday contests which could have helped the overall Canyon Lake game on that last day of games.
This was CL’s final tournament and will now start to hone their skills in preparing for district play in January.
The Hawks will be back in action when Comfort comes to the Hawk Nest on January 3rd with a 12 Noon tip-off.
A road game to Lampasas and final non-district home game against John Paul II before your Hawks start district play with Bandera on the road, January 17th.
