Lady Hawks Finish Pre-District with Win Over SA Lutheran, 42-27

Hawks set up offense in win over SA Lutheran as Carrizales & Barber both have double digit scoring.

Canyon Lake Ladies (17-4) won their rubber match with San Antonio Lutheran after dominating with a suffocating defense and timely offense, 42-27.

North Shore UMC says Go Hawks!

“We are still struggling around the basket,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “We did move the ball well tonight but there were times when we just could not finish.”

Marley Carrizales (15) and Sophia Barber (14) continued their hot streak after their last tournament as this consistency will come in handy as District 28-4A play will be next up this Thursday with a road game to Billie Land.

Carrizales shot 63% and Barber 60% from the field while Lainee Moses finished with 7 assists in leading the Hawks in this win over the Mustangs.

“We have been playing together for 3 years,” Guard Lainee Moses said in response to the number of assists the Hawks have had the past few games. “We all know where our spots are and we are seeing the whole floor and finding the open person.”

That is certainly the case in this game as CL continued to find open players for drives and set shots, “I can rely on them (the players to be in the right place) to be there….and court awareness.”

Sophia Barber continued her hot streak in win!

Barber scored 7 points in that opening period and Carrizales took the rock and scored 9 points with a perfect 2nd quarter.

The last 5 games Barber has been averaging 13 points during that span and with those long range shots being successful will make a defense open up to put pressure on those players and leaving open players in the paint.

“I have been working hard and getting reps,” Barber said with precision (which always a good trait for a Barber). “Everybody knows all the positions and that helps in knowing where everyone will be on the court.”

On her thoughts as District 28-4A commences on Thursday, “I’m pretty excited and I want us to stay together and hype each other up!”

With a 10 point lead entering the last stanza, The Lake, was on mark in making 6 of 9 shots with 5 of those makes being a result of sharing the ball with an assist.

For the game, Canyon Lake would have their 2nd game in a row with 14 assists as this offense continues to do just enough for winning in round ball play.

The Hawks were able to control the 2nd half by holding the Mustangs to a gallop in scoring 10 points while CL increased their lead in doubling that output.

A good showing so far but now the dress rehearsal is over with the curtain opening against Fredericksburg.

Way to Go Hawks!!
