CL Boys Basketball Can’t Keep Up with Billies in Loss, 66-40
Canyon Lake fared better than their first outing but the result remained the same, after losing to the State Ranked Billies Basketball squad, 66-40.
“We played pretty well last night,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “They shot the ball really well. They scored 42 points from the 3point line and we only had 12. That was the main difference in the game.”
“They are now 32-0 for a reason,’ Coach Chapman continued. “You almost have to pick your poison with how you are going to guard them. You just hope they will miss some shots from outside, and unfortunately, they did not. On the top of the they are one of the best man-to-man defensive teams I have ever seen, and if you aren’t hitting outside shots, it is going to be tough to score against them.”
Coach Chapman finished, “We will bounce back and give it our best against Wimberley. It is always fun to play there. It will be a good environment, and we still have a lot to play for. I am looking forward to it, and I know the kids are too.”
After sinking 14 three-pointers like most teams shoot lay-ups, Fredericksburg started the game in command and never looked back in scoring just 24 points inside the arc or free throw line.
On the flip side, the Hawks continued their shooting blanks from long range after hitting 25% of their 3-point tries.
Rico Griffin finished his career on the home court as one of the best ever after reaching 10 points on 5 of 9 shooting and 5 rebounds.
Griffin passed Rory Preiss for 2nd place on the all-time scoring list and continues to add 5 to his rebounding lead he took away from Preiss back during the final days of January play.
Patrick McAuliffe who has been one of the only long range shooters finished with a 2 for 4 night from 3 point land and is now safely residing as the 10th best Hawk with that shot. Making that statement in his one year varsity chance hitting 36 that also replaced Preiss for that spot.
With a possibility of at least two more games, McAulfife needs two more to pass Will Gray.
Trent MacRoberts (305) finished with a game high 6 rebounds that moved him past Andrew Riali and into 7th place on that all-time list for Canyon Lake.
Canyon Lake continued to distribute the ball well with 9 assists on the 14 shots made as Tyler Pauly finished with a game high 4 and now has 89 and with two more will pass Tanner Jones for 8th place for that category.
The Lake will finish their season on the road when they travel over the Back-Bone for a chance of taking care of Wimberley.
With a win, Canyon Lake will have their ticket punched for another Bi-District affair against Liberty Hill. A loss and Bandera win would give CL a play-in game with that same team later next week.
