Lady Hawks Lose to Llano and Will Set Up Play-In Game on Friday

Canyon Lake Ladies ran out of time in loss to Llano after suffering a 2 point set-back, 45-43. CL’s scenario has now been set with a one game play-in on Friday in Fredericksburg for a chance to continue season.

Marley Carrizales has risen to new heights during her Senior year.

The YellowJackets and The Lake will go at it again in a rubber match as this battle could be classified as that first post-season game with the loser sitting down while a winner can live for another day. The winner will meet Liberty Hill who won the tie-breaker for District 27-4A going into Bi-District.

Canyon Lake did have two players with double digit scoring as Marley Carrizales (18) and Chelsea Tschoepe (13) had those honors.

“Marley has always had the potential,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “Been telling her for four years that she needs to be more aggressive on the offensive side and….she’s done that.”

Carrizales has been the most consistent Hawk during her district play in averaging right at 11 points per contest and leading the team in steals during that same time period. That stat plays out for her defense that compliments her overall play.

Comparing Carrizales’  past two seasons on varsity is even more revealing.

2019 50-121 18-85 45-71 118 47-91 118 75 106 2

What turned out to be a Llano 2 point advantage to end that first quarter would be the same deficit to end the game as CL could not wrestle the lead from the home team.

                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake did not waste taking shots after launching 49 for this contest and finishing with more shots beyond the arc (28) than inside (21). Both of those aspects resulted in 18 points a piece with the remainder coming from the charity stripe.

Lainee Moses led with rebounds (6), assists (5), one block and steals (4) showing her good all-around play.

A little more will be needed on Friday from the players to continue their streak of playoff appearances.

Go Hawks!!
