Canyon Lake allowed just one run and used two outburst innings to beat Robstown, 10-1 in their final Hawk Tournament game with an undefeated, 3-0 record.

With the Virus hysteria, all CL Sports, will be suspended for the next two weeks before a revaluation for the next move.

North Shore UMC says Go Hawks!

On the diamond, The Lake continued this special season by already matching their 2nd best win total (12) that has happened three other times (2013-18-19). The difference would be how many losses accompanied those seasons while this campaign has the Hawks with only two one-run losses. (3-2 loss to Medina Valley & 2-1 loss to SA Christian)

“We are ready for district now,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We have a plan and they know how to execute it and get it done. They are a family and we have some good pitching and they are around the zone and we can feast on that.”

This might sound like a broken record but wins start on the mound and Canyon Lake at this present time enjoys a wealth of good arms as Junior Tyler Pauly recorded his 5th win this season. The bad news was giving up an earned run which was the first for Pauly and raised his 0.00 era to 0.23 when taking the mound later this year.

Pauly suffered that earned run after the Cotton Picker’s put together two hits back to back (a double-single) that tied the score, 1-1, in the top of the 2nd inning. Pauly was not finished and walked two more batters during that same inning with just one out loading the bases.

“I was mad at my giving up those walks,” Pauly said in response to that 2nd inning. “I knew I would have to have a better command and come at them. We have had a culture change and this team comes into games with confidence for a win and unfortunately we have to wait two more weeks.”

                     Go Hawks!!

That Pauly did, with two consecutive strikeouts ending this threat after a 32 pitch count (the most for any inning this year). Those pitches were 40% of the balls thrown in this game as Pauly would retire the next 9 out of 10 Robstown batters. While finishing with 9 K’s in his 5 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Canyon Lake matched the Cotton-Picker’s run and had a 4 run inning, which had CL, needing just one hit (Caleb Williams) after some wildness from Robstown and the Hawks forged to a 5-1 lead that would not be threatened for the remainder of this outing.

The Hawks would ice this contest in their 5th frame with one out, Cale Claycomb walked followed by a Hayden Baker single then a double off the bat of Ethan Slater.

Slater has awakened with his bat in his last two games continued that motif in this contest.

               Let’s Go Hawks!!

Caleb Williams would load the bases on a 6 pitch walk that led to James LaLonde single scoring two Hawks and then a Brandon Robinson single scored the final two CL players that would result in a 9 run advantage and stoppage of play, 10-1 result.

Those two middle innings continued to produce runs this season as CL has score 48 of their 81 runs in those two frames (4th & 5th innings). CL has scored more in those two innings individually (23 & 25) than the total number of runs scored by your host’s opposition teams of 22 runs.

Canyon Lake will go into this recess with 3 batters having a .400 or higher batting average and the Hawks have a decent .287 team average.

Go Hawks!!
